If each of the four stages in Sasuke 39's renewal had to be an exact replica of that of a previous tournament, what tournaments would you pick for each stage? I'm asking this because budget notwithstanding it would actually be a really cool idea to bring back some old favourites, especially those that were massively underrated, didn't have a particularly long tenure, or were flat out just not attempted.
Here are mine:
Stage 1 - Sasuke 19: I know I've openly stated that Sasuke 19's Stage 1 was cruelly unfair but that was in the context of when and how it was implemented, but I think this renewal is a better time than ever to implement a course that is brutally hard in every way, replacing the long standing staleness of recent Stage 1s. Recent iterations have suffered from two main problems, the first influencing the second: 1) the difficulty isn't balanced across the entire course (38 was a particular offender in this regard) and 2) the results were painfully predictable. I feel like Sasuke 19's Stage 1 would address all of these problems in that the stage is refreshingly hard but that difficulty is shared amongst most of its obstacles, meaning that anyone can get caught off guard anywhere, no matter who they are. I also feel like competitors have developed to the point that the results won't be as terrible as they were in 19 (which I get was the point but got kinda boring after a while), so unlike in 19 we'd actually see some excitement and potentially some breakouts as well as shock fails.
Stage 2 - Sasuke 5: I know a lot of people will go with the Sasuke 25-27 Stage 2 and I almost did as well, but I have a soft spot for the Sasuke 5 Stage 2; because it enveloped everything that Stage 2 was meant to be. A highly technical, intricate, and down-to-the-wire speed stage. It definitely achieved this as Shingo barely cleared, while Yamada and Takeda got caught out trying to rush. The Tackle Machine-Spider Walk combo, especially factoring in the need to rush due to the time limit, was never utilised enough imo, and it would be interesting to see how today's competitors would do as this iteration doesn't seem to favour a particular body type. Bigger guys would obvs struggle on the Spider Walk but would get through the Tackle and Wall Lift quickly, while the smaller guys would face the opposite problem.
Stage 3 - Sasuke 25: again another iteration of the stage that was underdeveloped as it was almost immediately nerfed due to Monster9's bankruptcy. So many underrated and genius obstacles like the Roulette Cylinder, Floating Boards, and Flying Bar (the full version, not the bs lite replacement with 3 cradles). Also, despite the stage being incredibly tough, it was far more balanced than any of the later variants. None of the obstacles either side of the Ultimate Cliffhanger were to be messed with and could take out even the strongest competitors (i.e. the Floating Boards took out Yuuji in USA vs. The World); and sure the UCH was ridiculous at the time but could easily be overcome with training. It's just much more refreshing than the Crazy-era Stage 3 where the first half of the stage (28-31 especially) was far too easy, leading to basically everyone reaching but failing the Crazy transition, which had a huge element of luck involved which exacerbated it's irrationally central role in later Stage 3s.
Stage 4 - Sasuke 35-38: not much to compare it to here. Just putting this as it's by far the hardest iteration, but no doubt it'll be replaced for later tournaments.
