Who do you think had the best debut runs in Sasuke? Here are mine in order:
SASUKE 1 - Akira Omori: I know this is a bit of a dumb one given that it's the first ever tournament, but for a comedian to go further than any other competitor including future All-Stars and finalists was just hilarious. The fact that no one trained for Sasuke as well made it seem all the more impressive, the fact that Omori made the final stage just because he was a stronger athlete than all the others, not because he trained on specific obstacles more etc. as is the case with Sasuke these days.
SASUKE 8 - Jordan Jovtchev: Made the Final Stage in his first attempt, a feat that remained unrepeated for 18 years. He also never trained for SASUKE either.
SASUKE 11 - Shinji Kobayashi: Made the final obstacle of Stage 3 in his first run and made the Cliffhanger Kai look pathetically easy which was a killer at the time.
SASUKE 12 - Koji Yamada: I think a significant reason for me putting this here is the fact that he was given #1, implying that the producers thought he was going to fail early/be one of those joke competitors, yet not only did he clear, he did so with the second fastest time, and also made Stage 3.
SASUKE 31 - Ragivaru Anastase: this was probably my favourite run of all time for a while, because we'd not really had good debut run in a long time (if you don't count the Americans who'd previously competed on ANW) and he looked like a joke competitor on the start line, yet he crushed Stages 1 and 2 and made it to the Crazy Cliffhanger. Definitely one of the most impressive runs of all time let alone debut runs, especially given that he'd never tried a lot of the obstacles before, yet made it further than competitors who build them in their back yard.
SASUKE 37 - Yoshiyuki Yamamoto: finished Stage 2 in an unbelievably blistering pace despite the rain, and almost cleared the new Cliffhanger in his first attempt. Hope he'll be back for SASUKE 38.
SASUKE 37 - Rene Casselly: I made a concerted effort not to include any competitors that had competed in other Ninja Warrior competitions as whether this could be considered their 'debut' run is debatable, but I have to mention Rene's run if I'm gonna make a post like this. I didn't really pay much attention to his run until he made what was an almost impossible Stage 3 look like a walk in the park. Defo caught me off guard in terms of who I expected to do well.
