Everyone on this forum has to remember at least the very first tournament they saw, which lead them to become huge SASUKE fans.
What was your first tournament (if you can still remember)? and if you can really picture it, who was the first competitor you saw and what stage were they on?
For me, I remember one day I was flipping from channel to channel on the only cable TV we had in our house (due to boredom). I interestingly stopped on G4, it was SASUKE 7, and I remember it was during the 2nd Stage. The competitor was either Shingo Yamamoto or Kane Kosugi--I still don't remember clearly.

For me it was SASUKE 16 and that Police dude on the bike with the whistle. He was hilarious. XD

The first I ever saw was the ANW 3 finale (SASUKE 27), which remains the only time SASUKE in any form has been broadcast in Canada... the first run I saw was James McGrath clearing stage 1. Stupid 2011 me was a huge Wipeout fan, and wasn’t used to people clearing obstacles. I thought the Step Slider would be impossible because of the angle of the steps 😂

People who have been around for a while know I found SASUKE after listening to the Chicken Run soundtrack on youtube, which led me to videos of Shingo's runs. I have absolutely no idea what I saw first, but it was almost certainly something between 17-27.
The first tournament I watched properly, in full, was SASUKE 31.

I have no idea! I started watching at ANW4, and kind of gradually figured out what Sasuke was from there. I probably just saw some random clip first and then put the pieces together on what it was.

SASUKE 20, though it was on the UK version so everything was ordered wrongly. I remember seeing Okuyama and thinking there's no way he was going to clear because he was 37 and looked like one of those 'never going to make it' competitors, then he blew me away!

No idea, but remember Maruta Nobori, Jump Hang, and Soritatsu Kabe, so it must be somewhere between SASUKE 5-7. A woman fail Jump Hang wearing white shirt.

I don't remember whether it was Sasuke 9 or 10 cuz I'm not sure if it was the either Nagano or Yamada that made it to the pipe slider. I'm leaning towards 9 cuz I think the 1st third stage run I saw was Shingo failing the rumbling dice. Idk the 1st run I've ever saw but Daisuke Nakata's 1st stage performance made a decent impression for me & become my 1st favourite

Yea, when the first stage remains the same for three straight tournaments, it's hard to picture which one you first saw a long time ago. Now, I'm not saying I was there watching it with you, but since you said you saw a female competitor with a white shirt failing the jump hang, I bet it was SASUKE 6. This is because it was Fujii Megumi who was only one of a few females to make it to the Jump Hang between 5 and 7, and the only one to be wearing a white shirt.

Haha yea, well I mean he was a Japanese 200m sprinter representative for the 1991 World Championships in Athletics, but knowing G4 they probably left that information out.

Yea, for a man who hasn't missed a single competition to date, as well as wearing the same burgandy polo and khaki pants from 8 to 27, it's hard to recall which one you saw first. Also, you said that you randomly found out about SASUKE through listening to the Chicken Run soundtrack, right? Could that explain your profile signature? lmao

That's interesting. Weird that you didn't find out about it between ANW 1 through 3 considering that the finals took place in the actual SASUKE competitions, with 4 being the first season that they decided to have their own finals course in Vegas.

I pretty much only watched obstacle course game shows to get a laugh out of people falling in the water. In the end, however, it was always fulfilling for me to see a stage one clear every now and then after witnessing a montage of people failing it. Also, I find it kind of odd that Canada decided to only air ANW 3 (with SASUKE 27 as the final) in their country, even though it was in 27 that Yuuji achieved total victory for a second time. However, ANW only showed the 10 American finalists runs from that competition, which is why I find that kind of strange. You might as well air the G4 edited version of 27 as well! lol

It's strange that I had no idea of Ninja Warrior at all until 2012, but season 4 was the year they were able to get a bigger budget (having three courses and Vegas), so maybe their advertising got better too? I know a few others who found the show at that time too. It sucks that I wasn't on-board during the first few seasons. Though now that I have seen the first three seasons, there's obviously no way to miss that the final takes place in Japan!

And it was so long ago that I first watched - 2012, perhaps? - that even if I wasn't hamstrung by seeing Shingo in isolation and nothing else for context, I probably still couldn't tell you what I saw first!
