What competitions do you think got too much hate for what they were? Similarly, which tournaments do you think didn't get enough criticism?
For me, the ones that didn't get enough hate:
- SASUKE 26: by far the worst tournament in my opinion (yes, even worse than 28 and 32). After only recently discovering SASUKE and seeing how awesome 25 was, I was super disappointed. Too many fast forwards, too many similar obstacles, the fact that majority of the results were spoiled (because the Americans, who made up the vast majority of the Second and Third Stage, got their runs shown early). Also, how they completely disregarded the running order, which I get was for suspense, but it doesn't help when you can literally see their bibs.
- SASUKE 27: I don't think this is a bad tournament at all, but it's definitely overrated due to the presence of a Total Victory. This is on my list because of how, once again, they fast forwarded almost everyone (but this is more acceptable because there were 27 clears), but on that topic; they completely tanked the difficulty of the course which I think sucked; like replacing the Roulette Cylinder/Doorknob Grasper with the Arm Bike? Come on.
- SASUKE 9: it's just one of those tournaments where absolutely nothing happened. There was no drama (except for Nagano's breakout, but even he failed Stage 3), nothing of interest obstacles-wise except the Cliffhanger update which was cleared by the first person to attempt it anyway, and the tournament ended on Shingo failing the first obstacle of the stage. Super boring to watch.
Ones that got too much hate:
- SASUKE 19: Obviously this tournament is hated because of the poor results, but I think it was interesting to see how the top competitors of the era coped with such a hard tournament, filled with modifications that no one could train for; it was a real test of pure athleticism and endurance imo; and to be honest, the results were just bad luck. Nagano and Nagasaki could've cleared if it wasn't for slip-ups on the Flying Chute, and a few others came close on the Rope Ladder, so the fact that there was no Stage 3 was just due to luck of the draw. I still find this tournament interesting due to what is probably the hardest Stage 1 ever (arguably even harder than the RISING era).
- SASUKE 16: People call this tournament boring, but I think there were worse tournaments in this era. We got several new faces clearing Stage 1, the Metal Spin turned into the nemesis it remained for several tournaments to come, we got Kong's return, and I reckon had Bunpei cleared Stage 3 people would be raving way more about this comp.
- SASUKE 33: Obviously Stage 3 was completely f***ing uncalled for, but it was interesting to see new faces clear Stage 1, and some old veterans get caught up on the updated course. Also, after a super underwhelming Stage 2 in 32, they hit the nail on the head with this one; for the first time in years, Stage 2 seemed to morph back into what it was before; a pure race against time. You could tell that everyone was wrecking themselves to finish; defo my favourite part of that tournament.
I've written this all out of severe boredom, so please discuss and let me know what you think.
