I don't think I've ever seen this discussed here, but do we know the exact people who came up with Sasuke's most innovative obstacles, like the Salmon Ladder and Warped Wall? Also, what is it that these men had that the obstacle designers for post-27 Sasuke and American Ninja Warrior today lack?
After rewatching a little of Kuro ovi, you can just tell Higuchi and his team were responsible for all of the creativity that was put into Sasuke in the first place. Inui is very conscientious and is a hard worker, but he just doesn't have the creativity that Higuchi's team had. Just watch the videos that were testing demonstrations for Kuro Ovi's new obstacles. Obstacles like where you had to maneuver in between a pipe cut out from the bottom, or the twisted warped wall, or even that new ladder obstacle that was used on the final course in Kuro ovi. Those are creative, and I've rarely if ever felt that way about modern Sasuke or ANW. Idk man there was some real magic with old Sasuke. The people focused on in the show and the actual obstacles just had some real soul to them unlike today, especially with ANW.
Editing this before anyone replies: I do see it that most of ANW and Post-27 Sasuke’s obstacles are derivative of the good that their predecessor put forth. So before anybody gets mad for me somewhat claiming ATS are a bunch of posers, please answer me why ANW’s Vegas formula hasn’t changed creatively since it has begun. The most you could say is fans created some clever new obstacles, rarely ATS makes something cool, and Stage 2 now has a 10 minute time limit. I don’t blame them for maintaining the current formula; you’re much more likely to diminish a good system than better it with change, but that only helps my point.

Salmon Ladder was recently found on an older Chinese gameshow, I believe - but was long assumed an original Sasuke idea.
I agree that Inui isn't quite as creative as Higuchi.

I think you're actually referring to a French show from like the 60s. I think the obstacle you're referring to was invented in that show during the early 2000s. It was definitely similar to the Salmon Ladder, just easier because it was on an angle and your body was against a slope for leverage.
