Either they started competing at a much later age than most others and did well or took quite a while, failed stage 1 many times before they started doing much better.
for me the ultimate late bloomer is Okuyama. Started competing around 36/37 and kept up a high level of performance all the way into his early 40s. Very durable and managed to clear stage 1 even at 43 (SASUKE 29). Oldest person to clear stage 3, beating out nagano.
Before SASUKE 29 i didn't think too much about Hioki. Mostly associated him with his SASUKE 25 and 27 stage 1 failures. His first time clearing stage 1 was quite an emotional moment and since then he's been really consistent, especially when he's usually the first to make it deep into stage 1 and clear.
Tomo is another one. Only passed stage 1 once before SASUKE 30 but broke through to the final stage in SASUKE 30, and he's got a good chance to go back there again, i'd say.
What do you guys think? who else do you think is a good example of a late bloomer on SASUKE?

I think Darvish is on the verge of becoming a late bloomer. Darvish is turning 37 later this year and he might make it to the 3rd Stage in 36 later this year if the 2nd Stage hasn't changed. I would also say Yusuke Suzuki aka the SASUKE Sensei. He's made it to the 3rd Stage twice and is turning 40. His last 3rd Stage appearance was last year when he was 39.
