It's impressive that he was the first person to get to the final stage 3 times in a row. But he really only got close on his first attempt and then sort of regressed on the other 2 tries at the final stage. What if he won in SASUKE 3 however? Lets say he didn't regress and whatever training he did on the rope climb in his free time paid off. Would he still have retired early? Would Akiyama still be an All-Star even if Akira won SASUKE 3? Would there have been 7 All-Stars instead of 6? Its somewhat interesting and can only speculate what might have happened if he did win but i'd say he probably would have competed a few more times after 7 before coming back to SASUKE 23.

If Akira Omori achieved total victory in Sasuke 3, I don't think Akiyama would have been an All-Star. For starters, he never would have been able to achieve total victory since he had great difficulties with stage 1 after the show's first revamp due to his progressively poor eyesight and the show's increased difficulty; the first revamp would have taken place in Sasuke 4, instead of 5, making the show harder earlier on. Also, he probably would not have competed as much without achieving total victory early on in the show's history and being given All-Star status as a result. The revamp in Sasuke 4 probably would have discouraged Akiyama; he probably would have stopped competing before the 10th tournament. In fact, Akira Omori would have been an All-Star, instead of Akiyama - still only 6 All-Stars. I think Akira Omori would have consistently competed for a much longer period of time due to his All-Star status and would have trained more; he either would have retired within the last few years or would still be competing today.

Something I think might be kind of ignored in this hypothetical: the All-Stars were all regular people. Shingo went from the gasoline industry to opening his own gym. Takeda went from saving lives to going into gym training himself. Bunpei was an athlete but even he settled into government work. Akiyama became a massage therapist after working in the fishing industry; Nagano is still a fisherman. Amongst Yamada's obsession with the show is all the odd jobs he had. But most of their fame came from the show.
Omori, as active in the Sasuke/Banzuke scene he might have been, was and still is a comedian. He's in the same boat of celebrity that the current celebs get harangued for now. He was a talent that happened to be somewhat active; he wasn't a talent who was known for being active, not to extent someone like Kane is...or even Hiromichi Sato for that matter. He could never be an All-Star due to the label he already had even when he participated in Sasuke. He regressed on the tower each tournament; if that didn't motivate him, I don't know how we can just re-write history and give him a win.
