This is probably a really simple answered question but is there anyway you can see (i.e. timers set around the course) how much time you have left while running the course. I know the audience can and they yell out to you how much you have. But is there any other ways?
Also, how do you know if you have timed out while underwater in the Backstream?

On the last part I'm pretty sure you can still hear the klaxon.

The announcers frequently call out the remaining time during the broadcast, I just wonder if the competitors hears it clearly or not? Also, when notable competitors run the course, other notable competitors cheering on the spot also called out the remaining time for them.

In Sasuke there is 1 timer that is visible through the back end of the course. It's physically moved each at the end of the stage (taken from first to second stage) and to the final stage when needed. You see the competitors often took to their upper left to see the clock. As for the audience.. they can't see the clock at all.. it's frustrating. The klaxon can be heard clearly though so most of the time you are cheering not knowing the time and all of a sudden you hear the klaxon knowing it's only 10 seconds left. For the competitor they may sometimes lose sight of the clock but when they are close to the end you can see it clearly. As for announcers being heard.. most competitors tune them out completely if they are actually concentrating on their run. Heck.. Drew runs with music blaring in his ears.. LOL Also, how do you know if you have timed out while underwater in the Backstream? There are people who can tell you to stop (life guards next to the tank in case someone has to be rescued) and have in the past told people they timed out.

In addition to what it's been already said, sometimes there are other competitors who follow the current runner mostly for support and sometimes to inform them about the time. An example that comes to mind is Nagano's run in SASUKE 31 where Shingo was shouting at him "50 seconds" at the bottom of the Warped Wall. But yeah competitors mostly focus 100% on the course and nothing else. Only Yamada's goons turn their head and listen to him, only to fail miserably shortly after due to lack of focus. (Hell that may have cost Hiroshige a chance at Stage 3 as much as I'm concerned)
