Ok, so I was thinking about this. Just an interesting question I thought I should shoot out to all the wise Sasuke fans out there.
If you had to show a friend a Sasuke tournament who has never seen one or heard about it in their entire life, which tournament would you show them, and why?

Either 16 or 17 probably. Both good, fun to watch tournaments with a high clear number and guys who made it deep into the course (in 17's case, all the way through).

Actually, I wouldn't show them 17 first. Or 4. It would create the expectation that people always finish the course. In fact, I wouldn't pick any show where too many people reach the third stage. It makes things look too easy when you want to make it more compelling for them, to make them watch more.
Perhaps 13? Maybe 12? (Even though three people make it to the Final Stage - on the other hand, you get the excitement of Nagano being thisclose to finishing.) While my personal favorite is 8, if you want them to follow a compelling narrative - something that they can latch onto like a lot of viewers have over the years - between 12 and 16 are good because you get the All-Stars before things started to fall apart for them (via injuries and whatnot).

I would show them, I believe, 19 (I think I have that right). Same reason as Lostinube's. I wouldn't want to show them one where too many people pass, because that's the true feeling behind Sasuke. Then, I would show previous clips from tournaments where exceptional people got truly far to try and impress them.

9 or 11. Generally good All-Star performances and a convincingly difficult third stage. For a newer tournament, 21.
I wouldn't start with 19 or something like that, because it wouldn't have anywhere near the same impact if someone is new to the show and doesn't know who Nagano is, for example.

I highly advise not showing them 17 or and shin tournaments first.
Now which to start with?
Would you want 2-4 first? I mean, even if you hadn't seen them you'll find out that Akiyama is theo nly guy to ever win pretty quickly.
It's a really tough question... 14 maybe because nagano doesn't get to the final stage everytime and the all-stars are pretty established.
8 because although it has 2 final stage visits, it still makes it seem incredibly hard, and no one will get there again until Nagano.
Though, I wouldn't say 12. Too many final stage visits, Yamada glove dispute which someone might find stupid.

I'd say 8. Though 2 did make it to the final, they both failed pretty badly, and the whole "drama in the rain" thing makes it more fun to watch.

I'd also recommend Ninja Warrior instead of Sasuke.

I first saw Sasuke about a year ago, I was watching UB and NW came on so the first I ever saw was 17, then G4 rolled it over to 18 and i was instatly hooked. Then 19 rolled around and i'd pretty well established who was good and who wasn't. I saw on the wiki that there had been a Sasuke 20, but I had no idea why G4 wouldn't show this one. Thats when I noticed the dates... wait a minute these aren't old reruns from the 1980s or mid 1990s, these are still being made!! I still had no concept of the twice a year or the 3 hour show idea, but I didn't care, I coudln't wait for more.

I'd also recommend Ninja Warrior instead of Sasuke. lol man, I got so use to calling it Sasuke now that I don't even think about having seperate names for the G4 version and the original version. I just call it all Sasuke. But I agree, it would have to be 'Ninja Warrior.'

I'd say 1.
And just keep going till 22. I'd think it would be better that way.
And if not 1, than 8, the whole rain thing, and Kane Kosugi failing was heart breaking...
But if its 8, it has to be the JET version.

If they've never seen the show, then show them in chronological order starting from 2. This way they can be suprised by the outcome of the shows. If they have see it, I'd recommend 11.

11 or 15 would be a good one to start off I think.

I would probably recommend 18. It shows a good portion of the course while showing how hard it is.
I think the insanity that is "shin-sasuke" (-.-) would grab someone's attention better.
