9.5 www.hochi.co.jp/entertainment/20170327-OHT1T50118.htmlFor some context: The first half hour ran into the 2400th (!) episode of Sazae-san which got a 10.6 on Fuji. The other show on Fuji that went up against SASUKE got a 8.6 and was one of those celeb packed variety shows. It lost a mainly head to head with an NTV variety show but in general, it probably ended up 2nd for the majority of the airtime.

Isn't 9.5 worse than previous tournaments? But it still was good enough for next competition?

Didn't Inui say that 10.0 was the threshold?

He made a tweet about good ratings, so I guess even though the number is lower, it's not in danger?

Isn't 9.5 worse than previous tournaments? But it still was good enough for next competition? It is worse. IMO they already had the go ahead for 34 (I know a lot were already talking about it). If the night was slow (and so far it looks that way) they go by ranking. If they were 2nd most of the night then that is considered a win. That said.. all of those sacrifices in editing doesn't mean jack since he's literally going backwards in rating.

By the numbers alone not that good but considering seems like everything was down that night and they still managed to get 2nd not terrible, especially considering the controversy hanging over the last tournament's editing. Considering 34 already got greenlit we should be safe, although that better do well considering seems like 35 is at stake

To see and hear about the ratings is sketchy overall, but one thing is for sure like others are saying, 34 will be make or break for the main series. Only thing we can hope for is that when it's premiered during the summer, there won't be major rivals that's being shown at the time.

There is a hard deadline of 2018 where a certain contract expires on the Japan side. I think they are front loading Sasuke with the Esquire money to make themselves more attractive for another 2 year deal which will take it to the Olympics in Tokyo. After that.. no idea. They can't keep getting sub 10 ratings. That's not good for business and I haven't seen them regain more sponsors either. It's Esquire's money that is paying for all of this.

So apparently there's a famous program called Tetsuwan Dash that's aired on the same time as Sasuke...

Out of curiosity, let's say that 34 bombs and the contract doesn't get renewed. What happens to ANW/spinoffs? Does Esquire take those over? I genuinely don't know how these things work.

The spinoffs aren't really impacted, Sasuke dying domestically doesn't mean anything since TBS would still own the format and still keep licensing out. Also just a reminder Sasuke was canceled and dead once before with ANW still existing. That's why ANW4 and the current format is a thing

Out of curiosity, let's say that 34 bombs and the contract doesn't get renewed. What happens to ANW/spinoffs? Does Esquire take those over? I genuinely don't know how these things work. What Rider said. In fact that has been a topic of discussion ever since M9 went down and fast and furious now that they have ATS as their main spin off builder. Each country is individually negotiated for their own version without having the requirement of Sasuke being part of the deal (thanks to NBC giving them the idea...). So, as a result you have more countries making their own versions than actually buying Sasuke as a product. You can see the problem just from that statement alone. That is why Sasuke Japan is no longer necessary since ANW is far bigger and inspires more spin offs since most either haven't even aired Sasuke in their country (ala Netherlands) or haven't in over 10 years (ala Indonesia). So yeah.. domestic ratings only impact domestic ratings. At this point it's like selling off the parts of a car instead of the car because the parts are far more valuable than the vehicle itself.

Yeah, I imagine post olympics Sasuke is done. Seems like that's the main thing keeping it going.

It's not a good rating, it's not a bad rating, it's the rating! (which I guess it actually pretty bad after all at a 9.5 ahah)
