I would like to know different peoples stories on how people react when you ask them if they have watched Ninja warrior.
I was talking with a co worker the other day, and asked if he had watched the show. He said "yeah yeah! Man when those knobs come out and hit people and they go flying in the water" Haha 😂 Then I said no that's not the show and I still don't think he ever knew what I was talking about. Grant it, this guy was in his early 60's and isn't into stuff like that.
I know Arsenette did a good job of explaining some of her's in her podcast with Geoff. That's mainly why I wanted to start it and see what reactions people get.

If I ever bring up American Ninja Warrior to my friends they'll usually know what it is (even if they say something like "Kacy was the first winner" ), so that's good. Most of the other shows I like (besides Wipeout, possibly) wouldn't be that recognizable, I'm sure!

At least it's a lot easier than it used to be I usually just say it's an obstacle course game show, or something. If they don't know/care, then whatever. The hardest part for me recently has actually been trying to distinguish between the ninja TV shows and non-TV show ninja stuff like NNL, UNAA, other ninja comps, etc. When I mention any of that, they'll say "Oh, when are they on TV?". Or explaining what a ninja gym is like -- that's been hard to. Or for that matter just explaining ninja training and ninja fitness in general. You can see why I usually prefer to just not bring it up in conversation anymore, lol.

Fortunately I have many friends that know American Ninja Warrior and are fans, though not to the depth I do. Trying to explain SASUKE to them is hard. My friend actually goes to the same Ninja gym as me, so that's easier. Concerning wipeout, well, the same friend was obsessed with it up till Grade... 3? 4? i dont remember. at least he knows it's not Ninja Warrior. lol and to put a cherry on top, a different friend knows Ultimate Beastmaster too! I seem to have a lot of friends knowledgeable in obstacle course tv shows.

I explained to them that essentially a more serious version of MXC: competitors run the course and try not to fall in the water. Then I further explained that by 'Serious' I meant the competitors were actually athletic and the emphasis was on personal achievement rather than 'winning the prize'.
I recently met a friend who was super into climbing and told her it was basically 'Rock Climbing Skills Test' the show. Showed her a clip of Stage 3 and she was sold.

About grade 6 for me lol. Now my order is Takeshi's Castle, Wipeout (early seasons), Ninja Warrior, American Ninja Warrior and then Wipeout's smackwall years (terrible)

Heh I've mentioned how every time I tried to explain Sasuke I had to say "Oh you know American Ninja Warrior?" and inevitably they mention how their kids like watching the dinosaur, wonder woman and the little girl who won... I just.. smile and say "yep that's the one.. just the Japan one". "Oh.. they have one in Japan?"? /facepalm "yeah USA is the spin off the Japan one is 20 years old".. "ooooooh that's so cool" (end of conversation). LOL

I gave up attempting it but once in a blue moon someone remembers... But ANW is pretty easy to talk about since it's taken off.

A lot of my friends know about ANW, so it's easy to explain SASUKE to them, but if they don't then I just tell them it's an obstacle course show and not the guy from Naruto.
