I wanted to start this thread as a way to collect all of Sasuke's most interesting facts and behind the scenes trivia in one place, so that future users can find this kind of stuff easier. Who knows, maybe current members will learn something new too!
The idea is that people post the most interesting facts they know about Sasuke and I will add the best ones to this post (with credit given to each individual for providing them of course). If you don't like this idea then feel free to not make a contribution here.
I want to give this thread a specific focus of providing facts that an average viewer would not know from just watching the TV show, ie being the scenes stuff. I ask that you refrain from posting super irrelevant number facts that always seemed to plague the previous fact threads around here.
Anyway, enough rules, I'm going to start with two facts I gleaned from my glorious times scrolling through 2008-10 threads. CREDIT TO ARSENETTE FOR POSTING BOTH OF THESE:
1) In Sasuke 18, competitors numbers were determined by a 1000m race. After competitors finish the race, they got to choose whatever number they wanted (provided the number wasn't already taken by a faster finisher!). The guy that came first in the race chose the number 77. Nagano got 96, so he must have done really well in the race to snag such a high number right? The truth is, he didn't care about his starting number and casually jogged the race, finishing somewhere in the middle and picking a number in the 50's! The producers wouldn't let their grand champion have such a low number so they forced him to take 96!
2) Again in Sasuke 18, remember when Nagano was disqualified from the shin-cliffhanger for grabbing the frame? He was offered a rerun by the producers, but declined because he felt he didn't deserve another try!
3) Yuuji competed in the SASUKE 13 trials but failed the Jump Hang, and thus did not qualify for the tournament (Credit to LusitaniaAngel313)
4) In SASUKE 18 Lance Tarvend originally made it to the Great Wall but got disqualified on the Jumping Spider for touching the mat in front of the trampoline. He received a redo but failed the Log Grip, which became his official result despite his disqualification being a better result. (Credit to ThatOneUser)
5) In SASUKE 25 Levi Meeuwenberg originally drew #39 and got disqualified on the Dome Steps. His interpreter didn't tell him that he wasn't allowed to use his hands so he got to run again at #48. (Credit to ThatOneUser)
6) In SASUKE 31 Drew Drechsel was disqualified on the Crazy Cliffhanger for using the American method (palms in, facing the gap). He received a redo and failed again. (Credit to ThatOneUser)
7) The original Salmon Ladder had all notches placed the same distance apart and had a protective cover so no one could hang onto the rungs (think Kanno in 23), but this made the transition to the Stick Slider deemed too dangerous so they decided to add the large gap to make the transition smaller, this also made the cover not fit properly so they just left the rungs exposed for the tournament and left it that way for all future attempts (Credit to RiderLeangle, and there is a picture in his post).
8) The most retries on a stage was Yamada Katsumi in Sasuke 12 in Stage 2 which was 3 attempts overall. First attempt, all of you probably have seen on TV, was that he got disqualified on the Spider Walk for keeping the gloves on after the Chain Reaction although he cleared. He claimed he didn't know this rule, and got a retry where he just timed out on the Wall lift at the 2nd. He claimed a mechanical error on the button and he was given a 3rd try. Its known he fell on the Brick Climb, and also got a foot injury and ultimately timed out on the Spider Walk. The first one was considered the official run, with the 2nd only airing in something called ZONE and the part of the 3rd was shown in the intro to Sasuke 12. (Credit to dogsrock67).
9) Drew's last name is actually "Drechsel", not "Dreschel" or the slightly-less-popular "Doressheru" (credit to Yamfriend)
10) After failing the Jump Hang in-competition for the third time in a row (i.e. in SASUKE 8), Akiyama was allowed to try a few more "practice" attempts afterwards. He failed it yet again on at least one of these attempts, but also cleared it at least once. Between this practice and his training on his home course, he was successful on clearing the Jump Hang the next time he faced it in competition, in SASUKE 10. Ironically, this was arguably the most difficult version of the Jump Hang (as the net was farther away than usual), and even Takeda and Nagano failed it in the same tournament. (credit to Yamfriend)
11) Only 3 Americans have ever beaten any form of the Cliffhanger in Sasuke: Travis Schrader (4), Kane Kosugi (8), and Drew Drechsel (32) (credit to Phillip)
