So after looking at the competitor spoiler, is Drew the only American competitor in the top 100? Sad that neither Geoff Britten nor Issac Caldiero participated.

I will burn Midoriyama to the ground if Isaac steps foot on it. Especially with the BS he's pulling to this day to try to force himself onto that show. Geoff however better get an invite after the song and dance from last year when he was in then he was out. Drew earned his way in and it's amazing the dance he has to do to get on each season however this past year I'm sure had to do with the fact that his group broke NDA with the pics last year. That apparently was the talk from what I hear. It affected how ALL foreigners were perceived. And that's just frustrating.

(If you did that, then you'd be in jail. lol) I might have an unpopular opinion, but I think it's only fair that Japanese competitors ONLY run the Japanese SASUKE. But to compensate they also should have a separate "global" tournament where foreigners also compete kinda like the ASEAN Cup. (which was ironically dominated by Drew LOL)

And it is an unpopular opinion because for many years you had zero issues with foreigners competing. The honor system worked and there were no issues. Then suddenly you had the new generation and all the rules never applied to them. It's a generation gap. The foreigners who comport themselves are all over the age of 30 (or not American) while others who are still in their 20's (in general - not all but from what I've seen so far compete in Sasuke) think the world revolves around them. Last year's break of NDA of one group shouldn't be a blanket shunning of all foreigners of all countries. I happen to like the diversity of having a few random foreigners in the line up (I love Lee Enchi as an example. That man is awesome and having met him I've become a bigger fan). It's just a shame that stupid stuff like that is happening at all. People like Isaac don't help the situation either. I think that is also why I'm such a hardcore Geoff fan. Not because zomg he should have won (I still believe some compensation should have happened) but because he exudes class. Reminds me a bit of Travis Rosen where an adult family man treats people with respect and not like ladders to their own fame.

They really need to get their heads out of their a**es about gaijins. I'm super frustrated that joe schmo carrot farmer can get on but not one of the best (if not THE best) competitors in the world, in Geoff.
I get that this is a Japanese show, but the format is global now. The lack of foreigners is alienating a big part of their fanbase.

based on his last couple of Facebook posts, I can't tell if it's a not so great auto-translation or not, but did Shingo retire? or was it just a poor translation of talking about the completing of this year's taping?

Nah, he was just reflecting on the past 20 years and how much more rigorous winter Sasukes are.

In recent years SASUKE is ironically probably one of the less global "Ninja Warrior" competitions their is, the latest NW:UK was broadcast in more countries than SASUKE 32 and their was a massive backlash (If I remember correctly) with domestic fans in 32 who thought their were too many foreigners. If anything too many foreigners were alienating a big part of their fanbase! Main issue is no international exposure, casual's in America know ANW, even my parents know NW:UK, I doubt many of the casuals know/care about SASUKE or who Morimoto or Yuuji are. Ben Shepherd and Chris Kamara didn't even know who Makoto Nagano was when we met them and they've hosted NW:UK for 3 seasons! It's just a useless network at distribution, could be a cultural thing maybe as they're hardly any mainstream Japanese show's in the UK but bar the hardcore audience it's not global at all. Heck American's legally shouldn't even know the results past 28! To put into perspective Ninja Warrior last week on Challenge drew 42,000 for SASUKE 17, NW:UK featuring a terrible course drew over 2 million. SASUKE's main market is Japan and they need to cater to that, if they don't they won't go much further past 33.

SASUKE's main market is Japan and they need to cater to that, if they don't they won't go much further past 33. Bingo. This is something I've been screaming at the top of my lungs for the past few years with them. I stopped. I literally just stopped and why I retired. Their heads are so wedged far up their.. to get WHY people are angry. Inui to this day still believes it's because he cut people and it rained. It is WHO they cut and what he showed is why they were angry. He cut clears (and has for a few tourneys... that infamous Photo pass thing grates my nerves even years later at this point), he rearranges runs the runs to fit the flow he decided on BEFORE the tournament so he's essentially editing into a style rather than appropriately and accurately representing the flow of competition, he edited in foreign participation fluff segments to Japanese instead of concentrating on their audience (no one watches ANW and they don't care...), they promoted foreigners OVER the domestic for dramatic effect. The Kacy stuff on 2ch was more of a frustration at the Japanese representation problem in Sasuke (meaning that women in Japan are sexual objects if not toys and not actual athletes) so here comes a foreigner to embarrass the state of Japanese women in Japan. It wasn't Kacy per se it was the fact that no woman had even touched the last obstacle before and they finally do and.. "she's not Japanese FML". I can't imagine the rage they would have had if Jesse ended up in the 3rd.. I would have died laughing seeing that live and everyone on the lot having a meltdown. The other problem with Foreign participation is that they CUT everyone else BUT the Americans so it seems even to them to be a clear bias towards the Americans so by default they are freaking out. There were good Japanese guys in the 3rd but you wouldn't know because if you blinked.. you would have missed them. Again.. something that Inui doesn't want to hear because that would reflect badly on his judgement and he is not someone who likes critiques. The NWUK thing is not at all surprising and it is indicative of the vacuum that exists in other countries when it comes to Ninja Warrior in general. Some countries that used to carry it stopped way back in 2008/2009 (before M9's collapse) so while they know "of" it, they don't "know it" to recognize the greatest competitors. That is the fault of TBS' horrible market penetration and why I'm so frustrated with the current scene (Esquire imploding further complicating the return of NW in the USA and potentially worldwide.. again). The other is WHAT channels have it. Even here in the USA.. it has only been shown to 300,0000 people on G4 in it's hayday while (I argue) the lesser of the spin offs gets 5-7 million a WEEK when it is on a national network like NBC. In the UK the Challenge market is smaller than ITV's correct? I will burn Midoriyama to the ground if Isaac steps foot on it. It was funny you sent me that on Twitter about 2 hours after I had a hate mail sent to me bitching that I'm a horrible human being for not recognizing that Ninja Jesus deserves to be on Sasuke and I should die in a fire for being a racist bigot who wants to sleep with Japanese men. Yeah.. that was my weekend. LOL

In the UK the Challenge market is smaller than ITV's correct? ITV is in every home with a TV in the UK, Challenge is on pretty much every TV except the REALLY old one's which only have 5 channel's but has significantly less exposure and less advertising than ITV. Challenge is also owned by Sky and features all obstacle course shows (Takeshi's Castle, SASUKE's, ANW up to Season 6, Fort Boyard, Crystal Maze, Wipeout etc). Even so SASUKE draws about 25% of what Wipeout UK draws although in it's prime on BBC Wipeout averaged easily 7m+ and I think peaked at 10m people watching in a country with like 21m tv's! I'm really worried with Ultimate Beastmaster coming out as I think in the UK it might kill off SASUKE, and it being in English straight away with celebrities hosting doesn't help either :I

I don't see Beastmaster as a crushing threat given its on Netflix, if anything I hope it maybe adds to enthusiasm for similar shows.

If you're trying to figure out the best way to never get an invite to Sasuke -- insult the director on his Instagram page is a great starting point. By the time Issac started competing Yuuji had been 2-time champion for 2 years and Yusuke had been Last Man Standing in 29. It's like he's conveniently forgot those two are still competing.

While I do agree that they shouldn't have been cutting the Japanese guys last tournament... their response shouldn't be "ok no more foreigners lol." It was the editing that was the problem.

The sad thing is that I think Isaac would probably demolish Sasuke 33. UCCH+VL play to his strengths as a rock climber, and he'd destroy the earlier stages the same way Drew does. Height is just such a big advantage on Sasuke (unless you're super chunky like Paul Terek).
The only competitor who has any real advantage on him in any way is Morimoto in the rope climbing department. Recall the fact that in the secret hidden never aired ANW vs Japan ceremonial stage 4, NBC selected Dory to face Morimoto (because they knew Dory was a better rope climber than Isaac) and America STILL lost, hence those motherf****rs never aired it.
