The editing was terrible for this episode. A full run and 5 minute video for a guy who fails the second obstacle because he has cancer is one thing, but doing so while relegating a return competitor with two artificial knees to a digest? Not even MENTIONING Brian Wilczewski's (sorry for the butchered spelling) run? It's always had issues with that, but this year seemed far worse for it, and I'm hoping it isn't a trend.

Can we talk about how Brian W had the FOURTH fastest time and got cut. Like not even digested. This episode was just like the worst I've ever seen. Much more sob stories then I've ever seen, and much more digests of vets I've ever seen. Just terrible. Not how I was hoping this season to go. It's at this point less a nuiscene and now front and center. ANW is going mainstream this year, they're going for ratings. From a business perspective it's understandable, no matter how much we hate it. I just hope that this is only for qualifying. That would be at least somewhat acceptable-ish.

It has been done before in other seasons like ANW8 or ANW7 for example. Not to get into a long lasting conversation about editing in other seasons, but Adam Arnold got 3rd in Indianapolis qualifiers in ANW 8 and was cut. ANW7 with Thomas Stillings in Houston qualifiers who got 3rd there and was cut. But, just hopefully it doesn't get worse, or has a more even share, since this is only the first qualifier and those were later ones in their seasons.

Every year, there are always complaints that the show is getting worse by showing too many stories and fewer runs. This always makes me curious to see if it's true or not. So I counted and compared this year's premiere and last. This year. 14 full runs with 13 profile/video/fluff/whatever pieces. 26 fast-forwards and 1 in-progress run. Last year. 15 full runs with 15 profile pieces. 18 fast-forwards and 1 in-progress run. This year, we had two fewer fluff pieces and one less full run, but in total we saw the results of 41 vs 34. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I counted 41, while the post on the blog says 38. I went through the episode several times. I don't think any of them were repeats or recaps. For example, last year, there was one segment that recapped three of the women whose full runs were already shown earlier in the episode. --- At this point in the show, I don't expect to see full runs for most veterans in Qualifiers. I expect the veterans to at least make it to Finals. I don't like that some of the finishers were invisible. I don't mind trampolines for shorter distances. It acts as a middle ground between competitor height, obstacle distance + height, and being able to swing without hitting the platform. However, I still think there's always plenty of room for some fine-tuning. An interesting thing they did was have Nick Hanson (Eskimo) be the last fast-forward as the lead-in to Grant McCartney's Alaskan adventure with him. Sean Bryan (Papal Ninja) and Charlie Andrews (MIT) should get some sort of mention in Finals for TNW and College Madness. Derek Miyamoto was on Sasuke Vietnam last year. He fell on the Salmon Ladder near the top. We got Flippy. The beginning briefly showed the top 30 for San Antonio and Kansas City, as well as top 15 for Daytona.

I made a video talking about the LA Qualifiers. Please ignore the fact I messed up the math and the max number of Vegas competitors is actually 102.

I think Spinball Wizard is on San Antonio since the Stair Hopper is the 9th obstacle (Unless they changed obstacle names again).

I think Spinball Wizard is on San Antonio since the Stair Hopper is the 9th obstacle (Unless they changed obstacle names again). I was wondering if that would be making an appearance this year. Last year the ninjas were pretty pumped out by the time they got to the Stair Hopper and probably didn't have the best body control when attempting such a fussy obstacle. LA doesn't look as tough as Philadelphia so maybe there will be a better clear rate.
Since there 22 clears in qualifiers, the most of any city. Will the difficulty of the first six obstacle be stepped up a bit? I could see them making the Cannonball bigger or smaller, removing a fly wheel or raising the middle wheel or altering the sizes of the blocks or removing a few in block run.

If there's any course they make harder this year, it's LA. As long as the back course is challenging there's no need to raise the difficulty of the front. I'm hoping they don't make the front harder.

Being at the LA Finals, I don't think it would be spoilers to say the only front half thing they changed was taking out one Fly Wheel (they actually showed it during the LA qualifiers cause no one ever double checks the edit--they showed the Bouncing Spider during the Cleveland qualifiers for godsake). But to be fair, the Fly Wheels might have gotten easier since now people won't be killing themselves on the jump. Also not a spoiler since it was in Crashing the Course, the Stair Hopper returns. And they made the bar ends more grippy so people won't slip immediately like in Philadelphia. After seeing the episode, you have to make the decision if it was tough or easy.

Also, it's about time LA gets an "easier" course. They've gotten the craziest obstacles the last 3 years maybe only beaten by Philly.

{Spoiler}hnnnng that backsliding is cringe.
Her run was okay, though. Verdict still out on the pegboard, though I'm leaning towards it being "amazing idea, good execution". Stair Hopper seems better to me, idk.

The stair hopper is super nerfed this year. This couse is wayyyyyyy easier then every other course this season. I'm predicting 4 clears.
EDIT: after this Pom run it's a little doubtful now.

I feeling a bit of condescension from Matt & Akbar about how "nerds don't do this". Por que no los dos?
