The editing was the worst thing I have ever seen.

Nah, I thought the Battering Ram was good too. They need to heighten the first Fly Wheel though. Not even that, I think it's NBC's fetish with trampolines and they didn't adjust the obstacles well enough with the trampolines in place.

The editing was the worst thing I have ever seen. I do think the editing was bad because: 1: Too many fluff pieces. 2: Too many audience shots in between obstacles (At one point there were at least 5 audience shots before the Cannonball Drop) 3: Not nearly enough screen time for veterans like David Campbell. 4: That Jessie Graff and Kacy Catanzaro count. 5: Hardly brought any attention to Nagano only mentioning him in that one fast forward. 6: Too many mistakes with the editing, when they tried to promote the Kansas City course at one point, they showed the Cleveland course instead, (Which is especially bad since I've never seen what the 3rd obstacle in Kansas City looks like.) and the obvious mess-up with the results. I'm probably gonna skip watching the qualifiers for the 2nd year in a row (Apart from select episodes since I was at one of the City Finals tappings.) and with this editing I do not like the direction they're going with this season and every problem I have with ANW was multiplied by 5 in this episode.

Kacy and Jessie traded the lead back and forth throughout the night, but a late surge puts our score through one episode at Kacy 12, Jessie 10. Stay tuned for next week as the count hits triple digits. Oh boy I'm looking forward to this. I might watch the whole season just because of this. "sigh (grabs drink) This is gonna be fun."

Soooo major flaw with the new women rule. Tiana and Zhanique both made top 30, if any of the other women beat them second night it is totally unfair to them because they legit earned their spot against everyone where the other women did not earn a chance to compete in finals. The three women who made the city finals earned their spot by qualifying via the parameters set in the current rules. Women who also happen to make the top 30 also count for top 5 women, so any woman who does not make top 30 has less spots to rely on. It's still your best bet to make the top 30. Once City Finals start, the leaderboard is reset. Previous positioning is irrelevant outside of when you actually get your turn. And as an aside, are we really harping on a child excited to see their mother do well? They do flips and are awkward when a microphone and camera is suddenly shoved in their face, what cringe. Come on now.

Not even that, I think it's NBC's fetish with trampolines and they didn't adjust the obstacles well enough with the trampolines in place. Yeah, the angle/rebound on that trampoline sure seemed higher than I remember last time I saw the Fly Wheels in a city course, at least from what was shown last night.

From watching the episode, I got the impression that this was really difficult course. With the battering Ram being particularly difficult. Early in the episode ninja's were making it that far and failing on one of the two transitions. I figured there were probably 15 or so clears but the end of the night. The 12 the showed plus a few more, sure enough Brian Wilczewski was there in the top five, I was shocked when the fourth page of finalists was still all finishers. I've never really paid close attention to the ration of total clears to clears shown in the qualifiers but this seemed particularly egregious.
I was particularly surprised by the digesting of Levin, Andrews and Hansen. With how much they loved MIT in College Madness and the big piece with Grant I would have thought we'd get to see more of Andrews and Hansen. Grant is becoming the male Kacy to me. His run was completely out of control, he seemed one step away from falling the entire time. The dance moves are getting tiresome. I would definitely take more kids flipping and throwing daddy under the bus for not being able to swim. Jo-Jo Bynum could have used that early warning system.
It was great to see new obstacles. I look forward to seeing the finals and the swinging peg board. That looks like a killer. Hopefully they'll adjust the mini tramp before the fly wheels to create less air. I also look forward to seeing how they gloss over the shiners and fresh scabs the ninja's are still sporting "six weeks later."

I get it that they have to spoil in advance some runs to attract the average fan, but during the intro video for this episode, while they were saying "hundreds of new competitors", did you notice that they showed images with exactly 30 and exactly 15 competitors? I wish I hadn't looked at it...

It's important to remember through these qualifying episodes that we'll see the Top 30 that moved on in 6 weeks so a number of them will get profiles then. No sense in "double dipping" and taking time away from other competitors. Obviously in a perfect world I'd like to see the veterans too but it's clear they don't make the show for us If they digest the veterans again in 6 weeks, no excuses. However I didn't think the editing was any worse than previous seasons.

That's true, it usually works out that way. I am sure, though, they will find a way to double dip on a few of those stories.
off topic:
Congratulations on the cup. I'd have been much happier though if the Sens had pulled it out. That was a great series.

Wow, really cool that they do that. That's a first for ANW, right?
Fails: - Floating Steps: 7 - Cannonball Drop: 28 - Fly Wheels: 20 - Block Run: 13 - Battering Ram: 19 - Warped Wall: 3 Completions: 22
Shocked by Luci's result. And shocked by the overall number of Floating Steps fails. Were they wet? Were these mostly Captain Tornadoes? Or what? I didn't think anyone failed those anymore.
I'm actually surprised by the numbers of all fails except on Warped Wall. If anything, I would have thought Block Run would have been the Ninja Killer. At first glance, the course looked relatively easy. But I guess if I had a nickel for every time I thought the course was easier than it actually was..

Honestly the only problem I had with the course was the tiny trampoline gap to the Fly Wheels. I just wish they made the course a tad speedier.

I think there was once a thread asking about how we'd divide ANW into eras, or where we see cut-off points etc. There's definitely one between season 8 and 9. First of all, the layout and graphics stuff has changed. Second of all, it's now a show about touching human stories, sometimes interrupted by actual runs. The focus is on rookies, the vets get all digested. If they digest the veterans again in 6 weeks, no excuses. Agreed. I think it's acceptable for the qualifiers, but in the finals I don't wanna see this (even though I can understand it from NBC's perspective, and I know that fans' opinions aren't worth anything anywhere, so I won't complain too much). Overall, I semi-liked this episode. 6/10.

Now I don't have to throw it all into Excel. I wish they had included the times. Not that it matters but I would like to see where the three women were among the others who failed on the Battering Ram.

The reason most people failed the steps In my opinion was instead of catting to the step it was more of a hurl and hug and the impact knocked them into the water. I'm a little surprised they didn't show Bryan pimlotts run. He competed with a torn Achilles and made the 3rd obstacle. Also selfishly surprised they didn't show my fail cause mine was in a way that hadn't happened all night. I was the 2nd to last runner when the cannonball hit the first drop I leaned slightly back to bring it in to absorb the shock and the ball cracked me in the jaw. Briefly knocking me out. When I realized it I was on The platform rolling towards the water and I was able to react to late as my momementum was already tilted the wrong way. The sad news for me was this course was so in my wheelhouse the techniques I was working on most were the techniques for this course. Quick feet, good lashes, and discounts oh well next year is another chance hopefully
