Thanks arsenette for all the behind the scenes stuff, really helps to put stuff into context. As for the tourney, I'm very torn. I really love the modified stage 3, which shows several smart obstacle decisions. The flying bar so early is a good way to knock out a few of the less seasoned athletes, and the decision to combine cliffhanger with Vertical Limit is fantastic. Vertical Limit has always felt like some awesome obstacle idea that's never really worked. As some grip endurance beatdown after cliffhanger it's suddenly magical. Stage 1 wasn't perfect by any stretch, but the new obstacles and pace generally worked well. Oy though, Stage 2. Not sure if that was because Stage 1 took out so many folks, or simply that Stage 2 received no upgrades whatsoever. The tacky old conveyor belt does not count. I understand that budgets are apparently quite limited, but surely they needed to give us something new on this stage. Hell, bring back the balance tank. SOMETHING. I'm well aware of all the bad blood between Sasuke and ANW (mainly because NBC remains awful), but its so cool seeing a few of the best international athletes pop up in the normal competition. I get that the spectre of a foreign win is the exact opposite result most network execs would want to happen (across any network). And hell, I even enjoy USA vs the World. The Chinese bootleg was the most bizarre "spin off" the franchises have ever had, but the mini-season with national teams were fantastic. But I'd easily strike all of those in favor of just giving the latest last Man Standing swedish, uk, japanese etc. a slot in each other's competitions.

The new cliffhanger to vertical limit seems crazy hard. I'd love to see some top rock climbers tackle that.

Stage 3 was a joke. The second half had a tarp over it, why wasn't there one for the first half. Kawaguchi and Anastase were robbed in my opinion. The Flying Bar was slipping all over the damn place.

The new cliffhanger to vertical limit seems crazy hard. I'd love to see some top rock climbers tackle that. From what I was told by one of the other testers, the two guys who demonstrate the Cliffhanger into the Vertical Limit are climbers and while they didn't go through the whole course they definitely could do it. So I have no doubt some pros could do it. But the point is that they'd have to go through everything else to get there first.

Overall, the results of Sasuke 32 were to be expected of a renewal/post Kanzenseiha tournament 8 Stage One Clears was fine with me, and I never truly expected a final stage run.
Leading up to the show, I did not expect the TIE Fighter and Double Pendulum to be such difficult obstacles. The Tackle + Warped Wall combination is just so deadly; I love it. The time limit was fair, as several competitors cleared with time to spare. One could make mistakes but several time outs on the Lumberjack Climb made the show interesting to watch.
SO many notable competitors were taken out early. All of the hyped celebrities (Golden Bomber guys, and ABC-Z) The Black Panthers (even SEGA) Hioki, Yuuji, Ryo, Kanno, and Asa all faltered Kongu's fail was shocking Cheen and Zang were disappointing to see not make Stage Two again Fast Forwarding Takeda and Shingo felt unnecessary I really thought Nagano was going to pull a miracle and hit the button in time. He fought but the course was just too tough.
I didn't enjoy the random jumps 11-21, 52-62, 66-81. I would have rather seen a montage of fails than just skipping entire chunks unseen.
The Second Stage was horribly underwhelming. I was never unsure about someone clearing an obstacle and the time limit was too lenient. The only instance of uncertainy was the short clip of Sihm stumbling on the Conveyor Belt (shown in the commercials) I hope for a slight renewal for next year because 8/8 was a yawn. After the chaos that was the First Stage, it felt like all of a sudden we were in the Third Stage.
I enjoyed the Third Stage in the sense that the Cliff Hanger didn't take everyone out. The Flying Bar (with aid from the rain) caused some chaos, Drum Hopper and Sidewinder R were more difficult and I was stunned when I saw the Vertical Limit came right after the UCCH.
Brent repeated his Sasuke 26 performance, being solid all around and making it to the Cliff Hanger. Crazy how Suzuke made it so far. His placement in the Third Stage felt like the most random competitor to be there but he deserved it. Seeing Jun Sato return and finally making it to the third stage was awesome. He made it the furthest of all of the Japanese! Unfortunately, Sato and Sihm got the triple digest feature this time around. Shunsuke and Kawaguchi did as well as they could, good to see them in the spotlight Anastase repeated a third stage appearance and showed he was the real deal. Strong, fast, and adaptive! The Wreathman! Drew went from dominating the course to falling immediately on the next obstacle. Kudos to him for besting the UCCH on his first attempt though!
Overall, another Sasuke down, full of surprises and I can't wait for next year!

Anastase is just not a Stage 3 material. He can own Stages 1 & 2 forever, but Stage 3 is where he'll always stop.

Man why did Nagano retire! That has been his strongest run in a long time. He had alot of pep and looked like he turned back a few years. I mean he basically cleared stage one, and would had cleared stage 2 cause it was a joke. So we would had gotten to see Nagano in stage 3 again! Uhhhhhhhh lol. Does anyone know why he retired exactly? I mean I know he is getting older but we have guys in ANW doing pretty good in there 50s. And he's only in his 40s. Was it the show asking him to retire or was it because he wanted to?

The show getting pushed ahead, losing the A crew, the horrid weather, basically everything that could've happened to production did, and it showed in every aspect of the broadcast. I actually figured Stage 1 would be a killer, but taking out people like Asa, Yuuji, Kanno like they did, yeesh. I get Ryo's idea but it only would have paid off with a first shot Wall clear. Honestly you can keep Stage 1 at current difficulty, just raise the timer 5 seconds. This is definitely among one of the most polarizing tournaments ever. I'm glad we got to see Stage 3, but the UCCH actually defeated. We got fails before it, although via unfortunate means. Cutting out all the women made no sense, and showing the ANW clips...I get it, but come on, trying to promote people as ambassadors using clips that basically insult the intelligence of those who know the context of them. Regardless, I hope 33 is a go, just because for whatever positives there may be, this is going to leave a taste in the mouth of the show and they should want to do everything necessary to get rid of it. Similar to thirty two, I hope to earn spot on thirty three ( \ _ / ). I wish luck to all of everyone ( \ _ / ).

Well, better late than never.

Anastase is just not a Stage 3 material. He can own Stages 1 & 2 forever, but Stage 3 is where he'll always stop. BS. Utter BS. He has competed TWICE, the first was his first ever time on a ninja course and the second was made more difficult due to the rain. We simply haven't seen his true potential. Don't know where you get that from.

I wish there was a dislike button... Yeah a dislike for his post cause he is still strong. 45 is not old. Yes, out of his prime but not old Agreed, 45 is definitely not too old to perform at a high level in an athletic event. Hell, a 45 year-old beat me at this year's Brooklyn Half by almost 10 minutes. 10 MINUTES! That's running a 5:42/mile pace and 49th place overall in the nation's biggest Half Marathon. I understand SASUKE is physically demanding in a totally different way, but still, when it comes to cardiovascular and the legs, you can have impressive performances even at Yamada's age. Edit: even a 60 year-old beat me at the same race (we both placed just outside the top 1%). Age is just a number. Of course, I doubt that guy is a chain smoker and a non-athlete most of the year, but still.

Additional result: Reina Akiyama failed the Double Pendulum. 2nd best run by a female this time.

I JUST realized this is the only time Takeda failed the wall. JUST Shingo can truly say he's never failed it in competition.

I get the limited budget, and production difficulties, but wow this tournament was bad. I could go into detail on a lot of things, but the thing I want to focus on is that STAGE TWO IS HORRIBLE. The fact that they couldn't come up with ONE new obstacle for a Kanzen renewal tournament is really disturbing. And on top of that, nobody was even close to failing. The slowest time was like 5.5 seconds from Nagasaki IIRC. Nobody was forced to go fast to get through. They could simply just take their time, and boom, they're in stage 3. It's just sad to see how Stage 2 kills everyone in ANW and a lot of the spinoffs around the world, but then the original has an easy and boring stage, even after a victory. Shame. Here's to hoping they don't overadjust Stage 2 for next tournament (if) like they did 28-29.
