Hey guys. Recently i've been noticing something odd yet fascinating. Some of the users here were diagnosed with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. And I thought I would make this thread to increase awareness of the mental condition in the community and for others here on the spectrum to discuss about their condition (non-Autistic people can post too ). I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome when I was 3...as a result I was put in a separate class from the rest with others with special needs in both Primary and Secondary schools and I felt like the stupidest kid in the world. I was bullied a lot in school and I found it hard to make friends. However a good thing about Aspergers is other Aspies share the same traits and interests and SASUKE is one of them! Most also have above-average intelligence but sometimes struggle with communication. Some people can get hooked on something they're fascinated by for some time...especially SASUKE!!! So how has Autism affected you? Has it affected you in a good way or bad way? Have you had any problems with your autism...feel free to talk about it here.

I was a rather late diagnosis. Diagnosee. Whatever. I was diagnosed as Asperger's/high-functioning autism in high school. I've not let it affect me too much, but that's at least partially because I'm a relatively minor case. I can socialize, and have never needed a special class. I'm just incredibly awkward in a social setting, and have had at least one party where someone (one of those people with Ph. Ds that like to let everyone know they have one) was talking down to me. I wasn't offended, but only because I couldn't tell they were talking down to me. I'm a pretty snarky person in real life, but for some reason, can't tell if someone is being sarcastic back unless I'm extremely close to them (as in, lived with them for at least a month).
In addition, I never quite feel comfortable talking. I feel like I might be saying something wrong, and when talking about my interests, feel part of me think that no one is really listening, but continuing regardless. In other words, I think I get some nonverbal cues, but they just don't register.
Again, I'm fine in other regards, as my 3.8 GPA throughout my bachelor's and associate's degrees indicates. I just don't socialize in person well.

I haven't technically been diagnosed with it (although I'm pretty sure I probably have some form), but I was diagnosed with ADHD and OCD, do I belong here?

It was 3rd grade when I was diagnosed with Aspies (Not going into full name due to spelling it wrong 99% of the time). I was told that most usually focus on a specific subject and work tirelessly to learn all there is. For me, it was Ocean liners. There are other things I also learned. I learned to play Pokemon and Mario and gain interests in both fields, watched teen shows and even freaking preschool shows because even they have valuable lessons I still must learn. I also started watching crazy obstacle course shows like Wipeout and some challenges in Survivor. You better believe SASUKE/Ninja Warrior would soon follow but HOW is interesting. My dad was watching something on G4 but then it ended and he turned off the TV BUT NOT the cable box. When I turned on the TV it was Ninja Warrior playing and it had JUST started (SASUKE 16) and I watched and was hooked! So yeah my diagnoses did affect my behavior in school but besides the fact I was bullied to no end until Junior in high school and stuff like that I'm just as human as everyone else.

High functioning autism for me. I never really fitted in well amongst the rest of my peer group, so you could almost guess that I was socially withdrawn during my years at school.

okay i guess i sort of fit in this in a way - not able to really speak - so in order for people to understand me i have to write / type things out - i guess its why i work online - maybe good way - also when writing/typing i don't really put words correct order or spelling off like it is right now but enough to have basic understanding - so i guess i also take a while to come up with what i want to type - but me thinks its good thing - mostly everyone i meet understands me better this way - not that i can talk - but not possible without microphone - range is too low - so i just write/type what i want to say
