Geographically, Pacific division only makes sense but I can only imagine the chaos regarding the expansion draft.

So would they add another team as well? 31 teams is a REALLY odd number on a side note, the local Columbus Blue Jackets are no longer the newest team in the NHL

31 teams is an odd number, but considering that they have the current 30 teams split 16-14, then it's not that hard to manage. As for the expansion draft, it will likely only be 1 or 2 players per team. Additionally, this meeting does not approve the expansion. That can only be done in the Owner's Meeting later this month. This meeting was the final meeting of the committee to recommend expansion, defer expansion, or dismiss it. As expected, they recommended expansion in 2017. See, everyone is talking about Las Vegas, but there are actually 2 teams that potentially could enter the NHL. Both the Las Vegas Black Knights and Quebec Nordiques will be up for expansion, but Las Vegas is the more likely choice.
TL;DR: Nothing official, but probably going to see expansion.

Quebec is not out of the running but it's highly unlikely that they'll get a team now. (Maybe in 2018.) Bear in mind that there's no days where everyone has to play so it's easy to accommodate an odd number of teams. The NBA ran with an odd number of teams for 30+ years before the Charlotte Bobcats joined the league back in 2004.

Quebec might opt for a Hurricanes relocation, but that's another conversation altogether.

Well, this is a first time Las Vegas will have a major league team. And personally, I think it's great we finally had a ML team coming, cause let's face it, no one from the locals (me) would love to just go to an another UNLV game.
