I don't watch ANW, actually. Even back in the day during the early ANWs I only watched the runs of my friends and the people I cared about. I got slightly more into it once I started competing, but that's because I met more people through the competitions and wanted to see their runs on tv. A lot of people started falling out of favors in the show though. People who were on every anw were not getting callbacks (yall remember Ryoga Vee? Chris Cristensen? etc...) Eventually they stopped being accepted. Hell, David freaking Campbell did not get a callback this year. DAVID CAMPBELL. A guy who has been on ANW1-7 and made it past the initial round each time, and has competed in Japan and other international competitions. The guy they labeled "the godfather". He had to be a walk-on, and he still didn't get a chance to compete. He had to try walking on a SECOND TIME.
Then a lot of the friends I made through anw (Steve Volcko) stopped competing. I remember talking to him at ANW5 I believe it was, and he told me "I don't think I'm competing next year". It really shocked me because this is a guy who iirc gave up his job to train for the show at one point Yamada style, and I was so inundated with competing at the time that I couldn't even fathom why someone who had a decent amount of success and what I thought was a free-ticket to competing every season would choose not to come back. It's the same deal with people like Levi, Tre, and more who were extremely big names back in the day.
But then here I am, someone who has been accepted onto the show 3 out of the 4 times he's applied, and I didn't even send in an application. Yeah I'm kind of busy, and it turns out I wouldn't have had the time to compete, but I didn't even fill out the application... that stupid 7 page or whatever application where I have inputed the same trash-can answers to their prompts every single time. I don't even have a compelling back-story of my own like others do, but I guess a little bit of effort and proper writing skills go a long way. After all, I did earn a spot in the year where 50,000 people entered.
The article is speaking from a completely different perspective than me, but it is something I've been thinking about lately. Brian Kretsch posted something of this sort on fb today too.

I can understand where the article writer, and Elet Hall, are coming from. It made for an interesting read, and was nice to see an alternate point of view.
At the same time, I don't know if it's fair to say that Ninja Warrior is all about parkour, using Elet Hall as evidence. Did Elet Hall do a great job on ANW? That's undeniable. It's also obvious that his parkour training had everything to do with it, since that was how he "trained" for ANW. However, the writer seems to put so much focus on Elet Hall (along with Levi Meeuwenberg) that he seems to ignore people like Isaac Caldiero, Geoff Britten, Joe Moravsky, Kevin Bull...I could go on listing non-parkour competitors on ANW.
Being frustrated with the reality show component? That seems pretty fair. I don't let it bother me much as a viewer, but it does get obnoxious to see stuff like what happened to David Campbell. But it seems a bit unfair to say that ANW is censoring mentions of parkour, because it isn't really just about parkour.

I think though the core of the argument is censorship of who you are. If you are say a marathoner and they think you are boring they delete that from your history and create a whole new persona. That can be said of any profession or lifestyle they don't want to promote. That alone is worthy of complaints. Wait until rock climbing goes out of vogue. LOL

Editing people to be something they aren't is something that should be frowned upon. I was more addressing the point of how the writer seemed to take issue with people seemingly no longer connecting ANW with parkour, when the connection was always tenuous at best. In other words, I was more uncertain about the search data information being a source of complaint rather than the Elet Hall story.

Lord knows many an argument happened early on in the G4 forums about all of those "damned free runners" lol

You know Arsenette, you are right about Facebook. SPOT ON IN FACT. I was actually sceptical about it when I first heard about that months ago, but you are right. Just tonight, on a post showing Kevin Bull's run on the official ANW facebook, there was a guy talking about Sasuke and asking if anyone even remembered it. Needless to say, there were some Sasuke fans, including myself, coming out of the woodwork, but there were also jackasses who wouldn't stop asking why: "anyone would watch that crappy version." Then, just as it looked like the Sasuke fans were gaining the upper hand... I go to check on the post and *poof*. The original post talking about Sasuke, wiped from existence. Even the comments supporting ANW were wiped. I had to see it to believe it. Now I have. Dude this kind of attitude is a problem!!!! Arguing is trying to make someone understand your point of view. Its not a fight where u "gain the upper hand". I can imagine someone deleted the post because no-one calmly explained how much love people have for the sasuke competitors & the history of sasuke. Instead u guys were so concerned with 'getting the upper hand' & winning this imaginary fight you probz forgot to actually argue. As for the article, I agree with ALOT of his points. Training for ANW is not a physical method of training the way parkour is, but it does promote fitness. If ANW inspires 1 person to try parkour/go for a run/join a gym then i believe it helps everyone. Honestly this is the first time i have ever heard of someone in the parkour community have a problem with it. I have many friends who have competed on ANW & so many other spin off in the respective countries. I understand as a parkour gym-owner that ANW effects Charles much more than it effects people like me, (those who only train) but if people come to the gym and want to do a "ninja class" as opposed to a parkour class it still equals people coming to your gym. I DONT agree they should call it "Parkour Warrior". As it is not parkour & if you know any people who train parkour, you probz know how silly they are. "Parkour Warrior"......no, just no And finally i dont agree that parkour competitions (ill leave the whole parkour competitions vs parkour purists another day) would entertain people the same way ANW does. That has already been shown to be the case. If anyone has ever been to a parkour competition it becomes apparent really quick that most people there are traceurs. Not to mention the low-rated parkour tv shows (ie Jump City, Parkour challenge) Its just doesnt work like ANW does. We weren't arguing. The original Sasuke fan on the post was sharing his nostalgia for the G4 days, and then more Sasuke fans joined in. Then, when the ANW fan started posted, we calmly explained why Sasuke was worth checking out too. It wasn't even an argument, really.

I don't accept that USA vs the World 1 was rigged. No evidence has ever been presented, other than the skips in time, which are almost the exact same length as skips in time of the same competitors on the same obstacles at the most recent USA vs World, and is just editing out of resting time. I've spoken privately with a competitor from the Europe team, and he had never heard about the claims it was rigged until I asked him. A number of the Americans that competed there have denied it publicly too.

Oh God.. this thing again. This is also another reason why I'm retiring. Tired of having to defend my sources - especially TBS and Team Japan.

TBS and Team Japan, according to your own blog post, didn't know things were rigged, because the didn't know the times taken, since times weren't displayed.

Oh God.. this thing again. This is also another reason why I'm retiring. Tired of having to defend my sources - especially TBS and Team Japan. I respect that you want to leave and I understand why you want to but this is the like the 4th time you've said "this is also another reason why I'm retiring" and when a new(ish) member to the forum asks a question because they aren't used to trawling through the forum to find an answer you've gotta give them a bit more leeway. Yes I know it is wrong and they should put some effort in but some times it's a way of trying to integrate with us older members or just having an opinion/ trying to find more info. If someone has there own opinion just let them have it or tell them the right answer, I don't feel how you should be feeling to defend your sources when it is public knowledge that it was rigged (and from people who were there, not just Japanese competitors) and we know you're leaving so just leave it at that, there's no need to publicly shout out about it on every thread. Anyway to answer your question they rigged the Stage 3 timer on the edit as far as I can remember (it was 2 and a half years ago so I can't remember exactly, it's under ANW6- USA vs The World if you want to find out more when it was discussed then)

First of all it had nothing to do with the content of this thread. At this point this is becoming an epidemic on this board. Not even close but seems it's perfectly fine to drudge up something in the past without going back to read the whole thing in painful detail. This is constant and common now in this season and the new people coming in are getting lazier and lazier in checking old threads with clearly marked titles and go into pages and pages of detail. Hell it's been corroborated by several people including those who broke NDA to back up the story. As for mentioning my retirement, yes I'm doing that on purpose because I'm tired of the effing hate mail. Even now I'm getting "hey can you tell me how the Americans did on Sasuke 32?" while simultaneously giving me crap on the boards. I'm tired of being shot at for being the messenger. So I'm done. Considering also that I was the one that posted the USA vs. World information it is directed at me specifically. For the next person (if there is one) on the list that decides to volunteer for free to find private information that's usually locked behind NDA.. be ready for the death threats, hate mail, character assassinated, rumors, disparaging comments simply because whoever is the person who takes information and somehow skews it to their own personal self worth. To those who were attempting to be somewhat useful to the community by relaying messages from people who were greatly affected but couldn't speak because NDA.. enjoy the ride because the generation now coming into ANW is vastly more vitriolic than in the past. They are not interested in the truth - especially if it is not positive. Unlike before, they will hunt you down to make sure your word is sullied, vilified for existing.

Back on topic: Sadly Sasuke isn't for everyone, for a few reasons I don't need to go into. This happens to be more so in primarily English speaking countries, I've noticed. We can't change that. Personally I strongly disagree with a lot of what the article says about parkour, but a lot of it strikes a chord with me. I think because I was brought up in England watching shows like The X Factor, which is undeniably rigged, all this talk of fixing, corruption, bad editing doesn't shock me- I don't have enough personalinformation to make my own judgement on how true it is so I will just trust Arsenette.
However I will say that if I could only watch one version of Ninja Warrior for the rest of my life, I'd have to go with ANW. And no, I'm not American. That's just my opinion.

ANW is growing exponentially worldwide for many different reasons and those who chose to adapt ANW internationally instead of Sasuke totally agree with you. There's nothing wrong with that. I just wish they peacefully coexisted the way it used to back when G4 was around. Agreed also that I don't completely agree with the article either. It was just an article that covered a topic that up until now really wasn't covered. As for the rest of it, NBC has changed a LOT to get rid of the problems from the first season of USA vs. World. For that I'm truly thankful.

Listen, I have read the ENTIRE thread on USA VS The World, and firmly believe the event was fixed. I have even corrected those in the past who believed it was legit, but I have to say, and this is only my two cents, that for new members to the forums, it could be confusing.
I don't know if certain comments were deleted, but on the first two pages of the thread, everyone is hyped and discussing the episode with no problems. Then, at the start of the third page, you just start talking about the event being rigged, out of nowhere. It is confusing and quite frankly hard to follow considering the thread then devolves into an argument.
At the end of the day, we should be making new members feel welcome and trying to integrate them into the forums. I know you have been here for a LONG time Arsenette, and at this point dealing with new members is a chore, but not all new members/ANW fans are automatically out to get you. Some just want to find out the truth, and can't follow the aforementioned argument, so just want to voice their opinion/ask a question in a current topic, something they can't do on the original thread. If you ask me, people like that don't deserve to be vilified with long rants.

^What happened to getting back on topic?
Also as much as I still love Sasuke I can really understand why people like ANW more, I don't like the editing with the long profiles but the fact that there's way more content instead of one 2-4 hour broadcast a year and in all honesty has more interesting courses, tbh I was bored as hell with 29 and 30 because the course was so damn boring... 31 is a step in the right direction but at the same time I think ANW7's Vegas stage 1 has to be my favorite stage 1 in general (time limit aside...) so while the editing and some of the casting choices are annoying it's still a more entertaining experience.
Also on top of that there's the accessibility factor, which admittedly keeps getting smaller but at the same time it's way more accessible, I think it cost less money for all 4 of my ANW trips than it would for 1 Sasuke visit which likely wouldn't even give me any chance on the course in any form...

I would say ANW is more accessible simply because for Americans, it is there, on primetime TV, constantly jumping out at them via ads and on social media. You have to do digging to find modern Sasuke. Before, G4 Americanised Sasuke, and it had no competition, so people flocked to that. Then NBC barged in and took that pedestal from "ninja warrior", instead plugging their version. Nowadays, NBC has been burying Sasuke for so long that it only exists in the minds of nostalgic fans from before 2011 and for hardcore fans like us. For the American public, Sasuke has been completely stifled out.

When I said "more accessible" I meant more possible to actually get in to be on the course or to watch, Sasuke you have 100 spots for the whole year and part of those you get booted out for celebs and returning staples and you have to apply directly and you need an invite just to go and watch, ANW there are 100 invites per region (with an average of 5) with 25 spots at producers discretion that they can give to Walk Ons, if you didn't make the cut to compete you can volunteer as a tester if you want to be on the course and you can go to watch easily and it comes to spots around the country where Sasuke is always in the same closed set.
