assuming walk ons will be allowed who's planning on being a walk on this year if he/she doesn't get a call?
If this is still happening in Venice I wouldn't mind so much being a walk on again ( if I can take time off work). That's because I feel I learned A LOT from last years walk on experience and this time I'll be better prepared to crush the course.

I won't be in it this year but you might want to share a little of your experience with some of the guys. Like what to pack, or key things that you might need to know. I know in Orlando, one of my buddies sat in the walk on line for ten days and got picked in the 20s! I'm sure not every walk on line is the same but you should be willing to take atleast 10 days. I don't want to crush anyone's dream but it would be nice if guys learned some stuff from yal that have experienced it before. Hey if anyone can take that much time off work and still make ends meet then more power to ya! Haha I just know I can't fit it into my every day life.

last year I was there seven days early and I was no 24. Then a few people left or failed to check in and I moved to no 20. The day of the qualifiers they had a guy that just showed up take no 3 spot and I moved to no 21. They let 24 or 25 of us try the course. IMO the first 10 walk ons are the luckiest because 1. it's almost guaranteed that they will try the course based on anw history and 2. they get to try the course before midnight. At Venice last year the difference of being in the top 10 and being in the 20s I believe was one extra day of waiting. I think to do well as a walk on you have to rest as much as possible 1-2 days before the comp and if possible change your sleep schedule so you sleep during the day and are up during the night. I know easier said than done. It's also difficult to do that if the walk on line rules are to check in every few hours. The other thing is to take some caffeine pills or some kind of stimulants to keep you up. I've seen other competitors take these and I feel I should have done the same thing because I got to a point that I could barely keep my eyes open (around 5 am) and then they called me to try the course

I think it might be easier for the competitors if they film it during the day at a random (Secret?)location like with team ninja, however, it will be difficult to camp out in the middle of nowhere vs let's say Venice beach.

I can confirm this is true, I was 12th in line in St Louis for season 6 and the first 10 walk ons ran to start the night (pretty much they run the first walk ons first as sort of the final check of the difficulty of the course since NBC sees them as expendable), I was called up to the line to the course and then when they didn't have to change anything about the course I was pulled out of that line for the called competitors, they ran 10 more walk ons after the "lunch" break (to make sure nothing needed modded due to the flurries that happened during the break) and I ran at like 1 AMish

assuming walk ons will be allowed IMO unless California state law has changed, I don't see how they wouldn't be walk on lines for ANW8.

- I would HIGHLY get Jason Hewue involved with this thread if you would like to know more about the dreaded walk-on line. There's alot of drama involved and it's best to have the most information available. It gets really stressful and someone always creates issues. (Don't believe me? Ask ANW5 Denver.)

I had a buddy tell me that you will have people form different lines and then how's does ANW decide who was the first original line? Haha

Apparently NBC started giving an official sheet for the original line to fill out last year.

I think given the circumstances there's always gonna be some drama especially when some people don't follow the rules (Set by the guy who is there first traditionally?) . There was some drama in Venice last year too on several occasions. But overall good and fun experience up to the day of the show. I wish I could say that it was fun the night of the show but it wasn't for me. Lot's of stress and not knowing whether you gonna try the course or not is not helping. It's probably a good idea to meditate and prepare mentally for this. I believe many atheletes have what it takes to crush the course but stess affects perfromance.

The other thing is to take some caffeine pills or some kind of stimulants to keep you up. just to be clear on this I wasn't trying to imply any drugs or anything unhealthy. Some people were taking ginseng, caffeine in pill form (found in some fatburners etc) and things like that.

That reminds me of a joke that happened in the St Louis Walk On line, there were a lot of hobos who tried to sit in the line because they thought it was a place for people to stay, and a lot of the St Louis hobos were druggies, there was a running joke that the producers would take one of the hobos in and he snorts crack before his run and sets the fastest time.

question: if the event takes place in a parking lot let's say in the middle of nowhere (I'm thinking of worst case scenario with nothing much nearby/walking distance) do people camp out or just wait there during the day and then come back the next day? Is it up to the first guy to set the rules? I'm just wondering in case this doesn't happen in Venice beach again (which is relatively an easy place to camp out together with the homeless ).

It's completely dependent on the venue rules. Only Venice allowed overnighting in ANW7. Only thing you can do is play it by ear and hope casting is forthcoming with information/is helpful.
EDIT: Wait, camping might have been allowed in KC. Can't remember. Either way, it's a site-by-site case.

In Oklahoma City, it's just a seven minute drive from my company's OKC branch (and I'm sure we have a couch there I could crash on if overnighting is not permitted—and I highly doubt it will be) to the filming site.
