They don't care about copyrighted music since they moved to NBC and got more professional editors, just no music while you're talking

Copyright is ALWAYS an issue. If it doesn't belong to you or you don't have permission.. don't expect a major network to be happy about it.. they are the ones that have to pay the fines. Again, don't give them any reason to just skip over your video. They give instructions on what they want on the video. IMO it would be best if you check out last year's thread because it always comes up.

Well the thing is the submission videos usually aren't aired publicly, the ones that get clips on TV profiles have the music edited out, they used to have warnings about copyrighted music during the G4 days but they've literally said nothing and people have used copyrighted music in their entry videos and NBC gave no fucks

Ive gone over the time limit every year and they dont care if you use any kind of music. If they want the footage they will ask you for a nat sound copy of it. Its no biggie. If you do well they will ask you for every piece of video you have ever been in - LOL!

The whole point of the video is to allow casting to see your personality. So if people send 5 minutes of footage they've seen a thousand times to some copyrighted song.. they haven't seen your personality. Most forget this is casting and not a competition demo reel. So I always err in the side of caution since most people forget that then drown the boards with "what happened.. I think my video was awesome.." then find out that they spoke for 2 seconds and the rest of the video was an AMV.. They even went through painstaking detail as to how they want it. Just attempting to be helpful. I'll just stay out of it from now on.

Fair enough, that's a good point as well, I meant the fact they don't have an issue with the songs what being used, I didn't realize you were talking about how the songs were used, yeah that's a very important factor

You don't get penalized if it is over 3:00 but please have it as close to 3 minutes as you can. It is hard for us to watch all the videos if they all run over the time limit. Let us know if you have any other question. Best, ANW Casting Team "

You're welcome! That post was really interesting and helpful since it's difficult to tell what they want each year. I figured that was at least "current" and it gave people a concrete list of ideas to sift through. We still saw monologues and music videos but at least it can give direction to those who are still confused and/or worried about their entry video. It's interesting (and expected) that they cut 2 minutes off the original cut from last year. Yeah.. getting over 40,0000 entries last year probably broke a few people in casting.. LOL So yeah keeping it short but sweet is something to aim for. Those poor people have to sift through every video.. yikes.. I don't wish that on anyone..

When deciding length, music, and all that stuff, just think about it from their perspective. They're watching tens of thousands of videos, for weeks at a time, as their full-time job. Imagine going to your 9-to-5, sitting down at your desk, and watching mediocre bro-ish flex competitions all day. Even if your video is really impressive by itself, it may not stand out to this loathsome casting employee who is probably half asleep and wishes they were out surfing at the Santa Monica pier. And they've mentioned several times that they do in fact watch every second of every video, regardless of how many they get each year.
