I constantly hear bashing on NBC and TBS, as well as other evil corporations like big, bad ITV. So here are five reasons why the BBC blows them out of the water.
1) Money is not their primary goal. Since the BBC answers partially to the Government, and receives money directly from tax, education, news and ratings are more important to BBC than any profit margins. You tend to see less clearly budget productions, less "franchise" shows clearly meant to capitalise on existing hype and less bad decisions done to save money.
2) The ease of availability. BBC channels (BBC 1-4 + Radio shows + Kids channels) are available from the get-go on most televisions or other boxes. Since British citizens pay a small annual license fee, you don't need to pay for the channels proper or but them as a "package deal".
3) NO ADS! BBC is one of the only stations worldwide with little to no ads. Shows have ZERO add breaks, and the only ads are shown between programs and only include promotions for other BBC shows. This also allows shows to fit more into an hour.
4) History. The BBC was the world's first full-time broadcasting company, initially only broadcasting for four hours a day to an audience of hundreds. Through wars, difficult times and recession, the BBC was always there, helping the greater good and innovating all round.
5) Range of shows. Across five channels, the sheer amount of free content the BBC pumps out is staggering. Every week there are new documentaries. There are dozens of amazing shows like Doctor Who, The Apprentice, Masterchef and Sherlock. No mater your tastes, there will ALWAYS be something for you available on catch up.
Kinda makes me feel bad for all the Americans on here...

Dude, BBC is TERRIBLE! I have many reasons why...
#1: They're biased, especially when it comes to politics!
#2: They covered up child abuse scandals to protect their so-called stars of TV (including Jimmy Savile). Thank goodness for Operation Yewtree.
#3: You think having no ads would be a good thing right? WRONG! Because they have no ad breaks, we have to pay some crappy thing called a TV Licence. A TV licence between April 1 2013 and March 31 2014 cost £145.50.
#4: Too many channels. I think three's enough...they dont need channels like CBeebies (which is basically CBBC's little sister), and BBC News. It costs too much money.
#5: Most of the stuff they show nowadays is crap, especially on BBC One. Seriously, who wants to watch ballroom dancing in this day of age? The only good stuff they show nowadays are Doctor Who, The Open Championship (which will be aired exclusively by Sky Sports from 2017, sadly), snooker (World Championship, Masters, and UK Championship), and FA Cup soccer. Why not bring back Robot Wars?
Sorry but everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Why not bring back Robot Wars? Sorry but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. While I agree with some of your points... #1: Yes, but politics is a non-major part of the network aside from the years of general elections. #2: The BBC never did that. Sure the STARS did work for the BBC, but most of the abuse was only ever uncovered years later, and any cover ups were caused by wider mechanisms in Parliament etc... #3: A TV License in my opinion is worth the money, especially considering the BBC can essentially cater to the whole household, every day. £145 a year for no ads and like 5 channels is a steal. #4: You say that, but young kids need their stuff too. I agree that maybe you could choose to only pay for the channels you want, but having that variety is good. #5: I think you are being a bit harsh on their shows... Top Gear, Doctor Who, Sherlock and Silent Witness are all awesome, and the documentaries they make are mostly excellent. Plus they constantly make small, 1 season shows that don't get loads of attention but are good and watchable nonetheless, such as Special Forced Ultimate Hell Week.

Probably the only thing I watch on the BBC is RMS Lusitania, Murder on the Atlantic. Thank you Youtube for introducing me to that. But seriously BBC is good! ^^

Eh, never been a fan of BBC. I only really care for BBC Radio1's EDM selections, otherwise the rest of BBC is "meh" to me.

Back in the day I used to watch the gameshows that aired alongside the National Lottery draws (In it to win it, Secret Fortune, Jetset etc.), Robot Wars (British Battlebots), Still Game (Scottish comedy at its finest), The Weakest Link and Waterloo Road (which is basically a live-action slice-of-life anime).
I'd rather watch ITV, they have shows like The Chase, Catchphrase, 1000 Heartbeats and of course NINJA WARRIOR UK!
(I mainly watch gameshows, sport and anime)

BBC shouldn't charge a licence fee, do you know how much money they made selling Sherlock and Downton Abbey off the 12030340050 countries!?!??!
