I don't want to take away from his amazing achievement any more, but if you watch Geoff's stage 2 run, it appears as if NBC is up to their old tricks again...
After clearing the Unstable Bridge, Geoff clearly has 1:30 left on the timer. It then cuts away to the crowd, and upon returning, Geoff has 1:45 again. Whilst he still would of cleared the 2nd stage, he wouldn't have gotten nearly as impressive a time if this is legit.

It appears that the clock corrected itself at the Roulette Row, so the incorrect time at the Butterfly Wall is simply an editing error.
For a more in-depth breakdown:
1:30 Unstable Bridge finished (Crowd cut) 1:45 15 seconds mistakenly added 1:17 Butterfly Wall completed (Crowd cut) 1:02 Clock returns to correct time for the remainder of the stage

My final time shown was just about what i saw on the clock when i finished. They had a nice big digital clock you could see from the butterfly wall onwards.

Geoff just answered your question, but gotta give it to you: nice catch on the editors mistake there.
