I made a brief discussion on this on Official Thread (Las Vegas National Finals), so I decided to make detailed topic separately.
In fairness, they deserve a life-time pass to Vegas, since they are the champs; they don't need to go through hoop again, just to prove themselves once more.
At the very least, give them a life-time pass to Regionals (or half-way, Regional Final only), where they don't have to do video submission or force on walk-on to wait for several days.
Unfortunately, given NBC track-records and recent controversy, it's most likely that they would have to re-qualify from beginning, for "fairness" (which would be BS).

Yes, assuming the format/structure of the qualifying and finals processes doesn't change. Mainly because I can see there being a lot of uproar if a wildcard wins. This is actually why although I'm for wildcards, I'm against them going to people that have a legitimate shot at clearing all stages.
Isaac and Geoff no doubt should not have to apply or make a video or do any of that crap if they don't want to though.

Expand the wildcards to include this new group and have Regionals ONLY for new people. That will give the long-time vets a nod for one season to prove they belong in that new group. If they fail, go back to regionals. However, once a champion always a champion. Why keep "qualifying" for an event you've already proven you could beat? Makes no sense to me.

Issac and Geoff aren't 'stealing' someone's spot because they already proved they can do this. Sure, there are sports where even the defending champion has to go through like everyone else, but there are also sports where being a champion automatically sends you through to a certain point in the competition. I think with something like ANW, the latter fits better. Those two will get TV time regardless. Limit their appearances to give some potential new successes more time. |

Anyone who at least beats Stage 1 should get to skip the regionals. Champions should of course not have to do the regionals.

Looking how anw is run, if you are going to automatically be passed into Vegas then nbc will be missing some valuable ammunition to make viewers watch the qualifiers and finals prior. Also the heartbreak that could occur if they messed up is great for "TV" and nbc's chances of giving out money would be less. Also I was always curious why they didn't have someone like drew dreschal last year be a wild card, as he was probably one of the stronger competitors who could have done really well. However once I read the rule packet, if you are a wild card and you achieve total victory, you don't win the money. So in essence they don't want anyone great to be a wild card, bc how bad would it look to have someone win and not earn any money. Hence all the women wild cards and why they may always be women if they don't get any to qualify.

Prime examples against letting proven competitors skip to a certain stage of the season: Shane Daniels ANW3, Levi ANW4, Brent/Drew/Flip ANW6, Rob Moravsky ANW7, among several others. When a proven competitor fails early, not only does it show that ANYONE can have an off day, but it also adds to the drama of the season (hey audience, anything can happen) and sets up a potential redemption storyline for next year (if they return)

Let's be serious here guys... even if they have to compete in regionals and don't qualify, they're still gonna get wildcarded. I really don't think that's the case, but only time will tell I mean I'm pretty sure they would've done it to Brian in ANW 6 and Joe in ANW 7 if they failed to qualify. |

Although I'm sure for you and Isaac it's probably much easier to get accepted, Both of you can send in 5 seconds of hitting the final stage button and the other 2 minutes and 55 seconds filled with making fart noises and you'd still get accepted  (I don't condone actually trying this however ) |

The only reason regionals exist in any other sport is to get the non-seeded competitors. No other sport does it the way ANW does. I'm actually with Geoff on this one, and here are a few reasons why: - Sasuke/ANW courses aren't exactly readily available, and the regionals in many ways are a good training opportunity to help prepare competitors for the finals. I'd personally rather compete in the regional to practice even if I had a free pass to finals. - If all Stage 1 clearers can skip to Vegas, then in the case of this season, that is 38 of the better/more interesting competitors which are now not in the first 12 episodes of each season. There are bound to be some solid walk-ons, but a lot of the appeal is the veterans. Sasuke doesn't show the qualifiers, so nobody really notices if the All-stars are absent, but with ANW, it's a full season and they need to keep it action packed. - If you bump the number of people headed to finals from 15 per city down to 10 (no wildcards) or 8/9 (wildcards). Then that will lead to some tight cuts. I'm not a fan of how the determine placement by speed rather than distance in a given obstacle, so for me that would be a bad change. On a different note, I'm unsure how NBC will do wildcards going forward. While I'd like to think they'd pick vets like Isaac of Geoff up if they didn't make it, they also really don't want winners and might not risk helping competitors who are likely to win move forward. |

maybe he was joking? if I were to achieve total victory I'd be less motivated to come back. preparing for anw requires a lot of time/hard work and it's even more challenging if you have many other obligations.I also find the competition itself very stressful, but that's just me, I get stressed out even at small local comps lol

Kanzenseiha is like food, the first bite is always the best.
I think if anyone achieved won the tournament they'd be less motivated to come back. Just look at Akiyama and Nagano. They've come back purely to keep their fans happy, but it was crystal clear to me that they wanted to retire. Of course now the former is retired. At least the way I see it when someone wins competing either just doesn't become as fun anymore or becomes less of a priority.
As far as it goes, I'd see Issac returning just for the sake of competing with his buddies.
