Wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the ANW7 forum, but WE DID IT! Thanks to an all time high surge in the ratings, American Ninja Warrior has been picked up for Season 8 coming in 2016.

Why is that something to be happy about? The longer ANW runs, the more Sasuke's presence in America diminishes.

Why is that something to be happy about? The longer ANW runs, the more Sasuke's presence in America diminishes. Because it gives something for the people who don't have the opportunity to get on Sasuke to do? Because ANW not being around doesn't mean Sasuke would be brought over anyways? Because if ANW doesn't get renewed that'd actually be WORSE for Sasuke in america since it would mean demand has died and it'd be even harder to push a foreign show in its place (which would be even harder to push on Casual viewers who are like "What's this japanese show? What happened to the American version?)

If ANW got cancelled, do you honestly believe that SASUKE would get picked up? Absolutely not. If anything ANW is helping SASUKE's global popularity since people want to license ANW but they have to go to TBS to license it instead.
America is different in terms of television branding because we are more highly critical of television shows, so executives usually pull formats that have succeeded in other countries. Once they take off here, everyone wants to do it. The best example of this is Deal or No Deal, which started as a lottery show in the Netherlands. Ever since it got Americanized, it's been adapted in nearly every major country.

Yeah even though I hate how the show is presented and s***, taking it off the air wouldn't make it so that Sasuke would magically come back. I actually do like ANW but there are just a few things that make it less desirable than Sasuke. I don't see why taking it off the air would be a good idea

Also we forgot the obvious point, Sasuke isn't exactly financially successful back home, BUT Sasuke is doing just well enough to not justify canceling and the money from the international spinoffs is what keeps it alive, ANW is obviously the biggest international spinoff so pretty much ANW existing is a major major chunk of what's keeping Sasuke alive, so if ANW dies Sasuke will probably die with it.

I thought NBC negotiated so that TBS got little or no royalties!?

I wouldn't consider this too shocking, the show's been doing great this year, I'd be more shocked if it was cancelled tbh.

Therefore, more money for TBS. NBC has to pay TBS for the license as they hold the copyright to the SASUKE format. (See: TBS sues ABC over Wipeout)

Oh crap by the time auditions can be sent in I'll be 21! O.O I can actually try and compete next year! O.O Sorry what? Also HOORAY! I'm actually VERY happy with the fact a new season is already confirmed. Gives me a renewed chance to see the finals live (maybe). So I approve and I can't wait!

I expect to see ANW for at least another 5-10 years honestly. And as for the Sasuke connection, they haven't had a direct connection in well over 4 years now so they should not be even discussed in the same sentence.. sadly. Either way, NBC would be nuts to cancel a show that has been a ratings winner for the past few years and has been well received worldwise so much so that others are copying it in hopes to strike ratings gold. People forget how badly NBC has done in the summer for 10 years before that. I may not like what they did to Sasuke in the USA (both to the airing an to the evolution ANW has taken) but that doesn't negate their popularity. Good for them. I still hope some day they deem Sasuke worthy to be shown here in tandem.

I haven't been watching ANW regularly for the past few seasons (only did so up to ANW4), but it's nice to hear how well the show is doing and that it's coming back again next year. Matt and Akbar better stick around as well---it wouldn't be the same without their commentary! Also, if this season has a city qualifier within an hour or two's drive of me (such as Philadelphia or New York City), I might actually go through with my word and see some of you guys there (and, if I'm lucky, compete! ). I missed out on the opportunities I had in Baltimore and Pittsburgh the past two years, and knowing that I'll be wrapping up college during the fall of 2016, ANW8 will probably be my last chance at trying out for it before I begin looking for (and obtaining) a full-time job. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm still praying that Sasuke would announce foreign competitors from America to come for trials. :l
Season 8... woo?

I think we can even argue that if ANW and Sasuke discontinue in the future it is then when ninja warrior will become more established as a sport instead of a tv show, with development of athletic organizations and national even international competitions.

Eh... I kinda disagree with that. Nothing in the NBC nor TBS versions of the show make it seem like it will ever be treated as "sport".

Granted it will probably never happen with sasuke as if seems that the people in Japan aren't as die-hard in love with obstacles like the american community. But if ANW ended i feel people in the ninja-obstacle-gym community would definitely pick-up the ball and run with it. (ie holding their own comps and stuff, which is pretty much what they are already doing)

(ie holding their own comps and stuff, which is pretty much what they are already doing) That and not being a tv show may allow ninja warrior to grow more as a sport. No walk on lines, submission videos, and people running at random hours after midnight. Sounds good to me.

I'm just thinking of what Malaysia tried doing in making it an Olympic Sport and how that turned out. Whenever I hear "International" I think of that since that is the culmination of "sport" when I see that word. And to be fair, Ninja events have been happening for years around the USA but I do agree that with ANW it has grown more.
