I think they can pull it off. They've been working much harder this year to get word out and drum up interest, so my fingers are crossed.

Option 3) they do not get the 10% ratings, and are subsequently cancelled before getting picked up by someone new (again)

For some reason I had been under the impression that Sasuke had been cancelled a couple times before, and was picked up by different groups. Realistically, I think that this season will meet that 10% goal, due to the content in the advertisements. I am not necessarily confident that they'll keep their word and renew it if it only barely makes the goal.

TBS has always been the official broadcaster of Sasuke. Who produces it has changed a couple times but it's always been on the same television station.

So this a a Network cancellation, rather than a producer cancellation. If that is the case, I feel like public outcry could have a big influence. 10% rating is still relatively high, and since TBS owns the licences that means it can't be picked up by other networks. I'd like to believe that in the chance of a cancellation, demand will revive the show within a few years.

There's a loooong story but if it's cancelled now, there's almost no hope in bringing this version back. TBS makes more money selling spin offs than investing in their own show without much advertising at home to keep it in the black. But that's another subject and could get quite lengthy.

They may make more off of their spin offs, but I would like to think they'd keep their version running amidst the worldwide Ninja popularity right now. I could keep speculating, but it's probably best to wait and see. At least if this is the end, we can sit back and be satisfied that the show had a good run.

You would undoubtedly know better than I would what's going on with TBS, being our resident expert =]. Do you personally think they'll hold up to their word and continue the show if they reach 10%?

I'm a pessimist. No it will not get over 10%. Just being honest.

Well, I think I can say I know what everyone WANTS to happen... Yeah, but we can't ALL get personal invites to compete in the guaranteed-to-be-produced Sasukes 32 through 50, even if we would look awesome on TV in our beards and hats.

I'm thinking with the increased interest around Japan I'm thinking they'll pass the 10% mark.

Of course TBS doesn't necessarily have to say anything to anyone. The top brass could decide and "neglect" to say anything officially.
Anyway, not to beat a dead horse on my part but SASUKE is not some sort of prestige programming for TBS. Variety shows are meant to be quick and cheap. You throw a couple of celebs and talentos and hope for the best.
