Twitter has taken over every television show. Essentially television networks use social media engagement as a more reliable gauge of viewer quantity and quality.
And amen to Arsenette about NBC ruining the Olympics. I have to watch the ceremonies on mute.

The competitors can be quite cocky. I mean, television can make them appear more cocky, and hey, if I were good at this, I'd probably have a hard time controlling it too. The show also wreaks of American supremacism--but that's what's selling ads these days, so I can't really say I'm shocked and disappointed. This is to be expected on a major network. Doesn't change the fact that I'd like to throw my hat in one season to see how I'd fare. Unless it makes me contractually unviable for Sasuke... not that I have a means of getting in or anything. Edit: I do think it must be said, that when I refer vaguely to 'competitors' as being cocky, I am referring to ones I have not met personally. I am lucky enough to say that of all of the competitors that I have had time with, whether at Chris' Pro ANW weekend events or just around, I do not take issue with any that I have gotten to know personally. Those guys (they might know who they are) are awesome. If they don't know who I am, then, they may be one I'm vaguely referring to, but I really only speak about a select few, so odds are they are not among them. So they shouldn't beat themselves up over it

The hashtags have become a thing for all of reality television now, unfortunately. Look at something like America's Got Talent. Wait, don't, they're on NBC. Look at Survivor or Amazing Race. As someone who has been watching The Amazing Race since the first season, the on screen hashtags annoy me. Their sole existence is to concentrate show hype into a central location such that it can be measured and used for bragging by the show. In ANW I think they are especially bad on the basis that some of the 'nicknames' they give contestants aren't exactly great

If it was a carpenter, it'd be "#CarpenterNinja" They are super generic..

I feel Survivor takes the piss out of them. Most are usually a hashtag of a ridiculous phrase or noting a certain thing happening like a blindside. It never actually detracts from the broadcast. It's done because of the social media integration with TV now.
