Yes it's a thing. Thanks Ube for finding the article on it. While we were both at Sasuke 31, we noticed a huge contingency of foreign markets. Most notably, we noticed that someone important was walking around the premises and a bunch of people talked in hushed tones. It was a prince from Saudi Arabia. He was looking to see if he wanted to invest his money in bringing either Sasuke or American Ninja Warrior to his country. He sent a delegation to England during their production to bring him back as much information as possible as to how Eccoline did things. A couple months later (and a couple weeks ago for us), he PERSONALLY came to Midoriyama in Japan to see Sasuke 31 live. I'm obviously biased and figure out that the most exciting show is the original and thus his article does not come as a surprise. He chose to bring Sasuke (the original version) to Saudi Arabia. How that's going to translate is anyone's guess but TBS/FOLCOM will be involved in this production. So while the main show struggles, the spin offs (both versions ANW and Sasuke) are expanding with yet another country on the list. For comparison purposes, this is now the 2nd version (announced at least) that has bought the Sasuke version with Vietnam being the first.

First America, then Sweden and turkey, then Vietnam and the UK. Now Saudi Arabia. I wonder who will be next...

First America, then Sweden and turkey, then Vietnam and the UK. Now Saudi Arabia. I wonder who will be next... There are different factions though. Sweden, Turkey, UK are all expansions of American Ninja Warrior and run by Eccholine (thus the reason they are under "General ANW" on the forums. This along with Sasuke Vietnam are the spin offs of Sasuke directly with TBS (and Inui specifically) doing the 4 stage course. If you want to get technical, it's competing franchises. As for who's next.. both Eccholine and TBS have upcoming Spin off countries that as of yet are not announced. 2-3 for Eccholine and 2-3 for TBS. P.S. New article

Ok this is getting ridiculous now Also would it be held over sand or the sea? I dont think there's much water in Saudi Arabia to waste But tbf it is cool that another country has taken up SASUKE, generally the more that buy the rights to it the more likely it will stick around so as long as they keep buying rights from TBS I see no reason why they would want to take it off the air. It would be like French Fort Boyard being taken off the air when they eventually sold the rights to 30+ countries even though ratings fell so in the short term I expect SASUKE to be ok.

It would be like French Fort Boyard being taken off the air when they eventually sold the rights to 30+ countries even though ratings fell so in the short term I expect SASUKE to be ok. Different faction. TBS International is heading this and they are in no way part of the Sasuke Japan formation or production. As evident with the deal with NBC, they have no qualms selling off Sasuke so long as they themselves get money. Overseas franchises can continue giving TBS International money in either royalties or outright license sales but it would not affect domestic production of Sasuke. As an analogy, Takeshi's Castle Thailand (and even United Kingdom at one point) is making a boatload of money for TBS as a sold franchise but the original has been cancelled and long gone for over 20+ years. They are not tied to each other and success in one won't save the other. Inui is desperately trying to find ways to physically tie them together (like what happened with ASEAN) but thanks to that failed venture and other countries not exactly wanting one success (or failure) to be influenced over their own it's not working as intended. TBS still has to pay for a show with faltering ratings and losing sponsors and investors left and right. This expansion is all profit for TBS since they haven't had to produce it themselves, they are being PAID to do so. Sasuke however is a money pit of which they haven't been able to figure out how to make profitable again. None of the spin offs should be indicative of the health of Sasuke Japan domestically. If anything, it's showing how popular the show is outside of Japan that they are willing to pay for their own version with their own people and their own networks.

Actually, that's a legitimate question. Women have virtually no rights in Saudi Arabia so I would not be surprised at all if women are barred from competing.

Yeah, women legit have no rights there, but as for the oil situation, that was a joke. Actually they do. However it depends on what you mean by "rights". Women can work, and move along their daily lives. The only thing they cant do is drive and even that law is under questioning. I know because my uncle live their with his family. I know because my uncle live their with his family. Isn't there a pretty strict dress code including niqab and stuff? While I don't think, for example, a hijab would be much of a problem, wearing a long and loose niqab would be pretty difficult when going on the ninja course. And since women seems to need their men's permission to go anywhere that might reduce the amount of women who apply. Not saying every law is strictly follwed everywhere in Saudi Arabia, but when people will be on TV I assume these things will be enforced on a larger scale than in day to day life?

Sea, Remembet that TBS is governing this, so they may require Saudi Arabia to be much less strict.

Even though they can't show their face in public? And have to be chaperoned by men everywhere they go? Overall, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't let women run the course (also, women aren't allowed to swim freely in public over there... hint hint.) But yeah, I feel we should stop now before this turns into a fight over womens rights in Saudi Arabia...

They'd probably have to run the course at night. I think it may be too hot during the day to run it. If they do run it during the day we'd get another 15.
