Wonder whether there's a chance a woman completed Stage 1. Although I feel like if that ever happens, either Inui or the Sasuke Twitter would hint towards it.

This is discussion about the competitor list ONLY. No spoilers will be tolerated. Feel free to speculate but do not spoil people if you know the results. This is meant for those who are trying to stay spoiler free until the broadcast in July. Please be courteous to them. www.tbs.co.jp/sasuke_rising/player/index-j.html

Heh, Ryo's picture looks like a freaking mugshot. "If you have seen this man, please alert the authorities."
Nothing to really add other than: no Wakky makes me sad. Also, is it just me, or is there an unusually high number of female competitors this year?

Goddammit, why did Darvish have to cut his hair (and let it go brown). I liked it the way it was! Now Iijima's hair on the other hand...

thebobmasterI counted 15 women, I think that is a quite high number compared to other tournaments

Chriss and I were dreaming about Ryo's (possible) girlfriend Kanzenseiha'ing before him this competition. But, um, a first stage clear would be awesome too!

Had it not been for the mask, I would not have recognized Darvish either. I didn't know he buzz cut his hair so it was quite a surprise!
For Rambling Rican readers.. I wanted to point out that one of the last STQ'ers to make it is #73 Makoto Yahagi. For those who read my blog.. that's "Moody". And for the record, I found out he has been trying to get on the show.. for 14 years.... THIS is his first tournament. Ever.
Oh and #22 is Mori Wataru (for those who remember him from older Sasuke's)'s wife who is a voice actress better known to RR readers as the Japanese voice for Chiyo-chan (from Azumanga Daioh). You know.. "So excited, so excited.. one month to go!"

Wow Ryo's getting increasingly pissed with each mugshot taken of him.

Wow Ryo's getting increasingly pissed with each mugshot taken of him. He's now on the 100 hotseat. Outside of Nagano and Morimoto, the others never smiled when they got that number. It's .. heavy.

Ignoring Proboards being Proboards with moving posts, seems weird that NJPW has kept quiet on Ibushi's appearance unless they'll mention it after we know a date. Would be funny if a guy that I've seen essentially have an entertaining match against himself (his "opponent" was a blow-up doll in a comedy promotion) couldn't at least get to the end of Stage 1. Then again, their most popular star even today sucked a** on the course.
Edit: Wonder how other NJPW people did on the course, so looked it up:
Tiger Mask IV: SASUKE 2 (failed Barrel Climb) The Great Sasuke (aka The Great 'Ninja Warrior' because G4): SASUKE 3 (timed out on Hill Climb -- Sosoritatsu Kabe version) Minoru Suzuki: SASUKE 17 (failed Rolling Log) Hiroshi Tanahashi: SASUKE 15 (failed Hurdle Jump) and SASUKE 17 (failed Rolling Log)
But Ibushi is around 5'11 and 200 pounds, so he shouldn't have too bad of a frame to at least get through Stage 1.

By the look of the list a lot returning veterans and entertainers I wonder how many people got there going through the audition process?

Anyone notice how there's like 20 women in a row in the 50's range?

I think 13 in a row to be exact, but I think they grouped them like that so they wouldn't have to change obstacles frequently (not sure which ones other than the Log Grip and Soritatsu Kabe, but there may be others).

The Log Grip uses shorter and closer together grips for older competitors/children/women and a small section of the wall is removed as well. Considering the 'Tackle Machine' redux, I imagine less weight will also be put on there so you group as many people together as possible to do all those runs without wasting extra time going back and forth.

The original Tiger Mask would smash stage 1.

TM IV is the worst of the TMs and the original TM is slightly overrated. Not to nitpick but the Great SASUKE was never signed to NJPW. He just came in to do shots like the J-Crown and BoSJ. There have been other wrestlers doing SASUKE, notably a NOAH.
There would be no reason for NJPW to hype Ibushi until closer to the broadcast date and anyway, their main partner is TV Asahi, not TBS.
And in terms of popularity two Golden Bomber guys >>>>> single NJPW wrestler. Even the A.B.C.Z guy is probably more well known mainstream wise.
