For people who receive the call or walk-ons that get to compete, I'm wondering if anyone can give info on the interview process the day of competition. What sort of questions are asked? I was told if you are quick-witted and they like you in front of the camera, you are way more likely to be invited back (and appear on TV). I've been working really hard athletically but have done zero preparing for how to answer questions in front of the camera. Thanks everyone !!

From what I know, the interviews are done after the fact. I wouldn't worry too much about the interview questions, honestly. Your TV chances are much more dependent on your "story" (i.e. how they can market you to the casual viewer).
EDIT: Not everyone gets interviewed either. If you're not interviewed you'll probably be fast forwarded or cut.

3 years ago I was interviewed the day prior. 2 years ago I didn't even get an interview.

I know nehcney has a lot of firsthand experience with the pre-terview, and can definitely give you more specific answers than myself. An experienced interviewer will try to lead you in the right direction, so just ask yourself, "What is he trying to get me to say with this question?" And if you feel comfortable, make it your own and say it with energy! From what I've gathered, you can somewhat predict the airtime casting wants to give you by how many of the following they ask you to participate in: (In descending order of importance) 1) Dual interview with another competitor (smack talk or sibling rivalry) 2) Pre-terview (usually held the day before prelims) 3) Special clip request ("film yourself hanging upside, jumping in the air, etc") 4) B-roll outside the course (do a flip for this camera!) 5) Phone questions (hey is this your birthday kthanksbye)

I hope that's a good sign.

The last two years they did a quick ten minute interview prior to the competition (one was the day before and they asked me if I would be in town early to do it, the other was the day of competition at noon). The questions were directly related to what was on my application (they literally were reading through my app while asking questions) so you can prepare yourself based on what you put in your app. They also grabbed some simple "b roll" footage of me just doing some dumb parkour flips and whatnot, it helps to have something planned for this so you are not fumbling around trying to come up with something on the spot.
After your run they may ask you to do another interview and even ask to come out for some "profile" footage soon after the competition. A film crew will come out and film with you for a day, it is actually a ton of fun. I can't be certain, but as far as I know if they come out and film then you are sure to have some tv time.
Remember they are making a reality TV show so smile and show some enthusiasm.
All of this is just based on my experience and I have no idea if this is what they plan to do this year.
Best of luck!

Myself and at least 3 other close ninja comrades got interviewed on the phone for the Venice region, but didn't end up getting a run spot. My motto is - Hope for the call, but prepare for the line.

Well, being in the midwest I hope that plays a small advantage over the coasts. There's atleast 10 ninja's to every one here. I have mini-courses in 2 different locations here in Illinois and i've yet to even meet another soul thats submitted an application. It's sad. I'm obsessed, and can't even find somebody interested. Whoever called me said he had selected me, but that I wasn't out of the woods yet that he would still need to get final network approval or something along those lines so yeah i'm still real worried. The struggle is real lol. I've done everything I can, all I can do is wish pray hope and dream at this point.

We have a gym called CNA- Chicago ninja academy, in carol stream. There's actually an event March 28 if you're interested in competing or meeting up with ninjas. Also have you heard of Dan matzen? He's also got an outdoor course in the boonies south west of chicago

I almost made it to Dan Matzens course last year, until life came up. I plan on going out there this summer for the comp he puts on. It's really tempting to try to make that comp the 28th but between buying a house, car, having a new baby I just don't have the time. Gotta get this stuff done so I can make it to KC if i'm selected. Is there another comp scheduled after april/may? I need to get in on that
