If not shown in full, I could see it in one of those quick tv promos. Oh I didn't even think of that.. that's one way of putting it in going "the toughest obstacle course on Earth.. " and putting that. I just keep remembering how many angles NBC showed with Drew's broken leg that I can't help but think of that. Dunno. Depends how much they want to play up how dangerous it is? We'll find out in a few months.

The injury sucked, but how he was egged on to continue was the worst part of the whole thing. The injury might have been just a fracture, but because he continued I think he got off lucky. On a compromised knee trying to do the tramp could easily destroy the ACL, meniscus etc and would have been 12 months rather than 12 weeks. I am very interested to hear about the other regions courses. Every year Venice seems to get the hardest set up this year being crazy hard. They are trying super hard to pit Jessie against Kacy this year. The only difference is Jessie might actually be able to complete the course. Also Jessie wasn't gassed she messed up on her rout and missed the top hold, otherwise there might have been two people who completed.

I'm thinking Brian will be shown, I'm just going to spoiler tag my reasoning because it relates to results. He got injured on the third obstacle, he failed the 5th obstacle, they love to milk the hell out of people who get injured but still try to continue the course

Do you know how long she took to get there and was she almost done or did she fail early on the route and how do you she wasn't tired I am pretty sure after completing 8 obstacles anybody would be.

4:40 to the rock wall. She was on the wall for 1 minute 15 seconds before trying to dyno to the wrong hold. Her grip got tired, but biceps were not pumped and the next obstacle is pull up muscle strength and easy to grip. I honestly think she had a VERY good chance to get up the last obstacle if she didn't go the wrong way on the wall.

ANW treats the Venice competitors, along with the Northeast ones, like they're the crash test dummies of the show.

So.. will they show it with a bunch of angles? or cut it from the broadcast? Brian and I have an unofficial bet going. LOL My guesses are that they will digest Brian and during the voice over Matt will mention the injury and then yada yada yada. Or they'll show the run in full and drag it out a long as they can with Matt talking about how he's not giving up (like he did with Luis Moco in ANW4). Knowing NBC anything could happen.

Drew was injured during 27, so that was the last time the obstacle existed in Japan before M9's bankruptcy. That wooden landing was always a bad idea. The wall had nothing to do with it. You can't guarantee no injuries, but you can remove obstacles that might be more of a liability than others. I agree. At least one could argue that Paul Darnell's injury in 23 could've happened anywhere on the course (although I wouldn't be so sure). But Drew's injury was specific to the landing.

To be fair....wait, s*** I can't talk about that....umm what can I say
Ok so these are just two random statements, not meant to be related to anything being discussed in this thread. I know Brian very well and nobody can make him do anything he doesn't want to do. In fact suggesting he do something that he doesn't want to do, will likely make him do the opposite lol!
When someone observes somoeone else hurt themselves, in most cases they really can't know how bad the person is hurt, whether it's a minor bruise and the person should push through the temporary pain and walk it off, or if it's a serious injury that could be made worse if the person doesn't stop. The best person to judge this is the person who was hurt.

The best person to judge this is the person who was hurt. I can say from personal experience that that whole second paragraph is quite dead-on. For example (and sorry for bringing this up again in this topic, but as it is a leg injury, I feel it is somewhat apropos), the second time I dislocated my kneecap, I popped it back in, and limped my way from the backyard (where I dislocated it) to the living room at the front of the house, taking a minute to rest on the way in the kitchen. I went to the hospital later that night, and eventually had surgery (not from the damage, but to reduce the chances of a redislocation). Now, I wasn't running on it or anything, but I'm not an athlete, and never have been, so I can see how Brian could have tried to push through the pain and keep going, especially if he didn't realize the extent of the damage.

Yeah, it's a tibial plateau. The first doc I talked to said I could get away with no surgery, another said I would need it. I'll be seeing more in the coming weeks before I make a final decision. I'm going to do everything I can to come back from this 100% and continue to be in the upper tier of ninjas.
As far as air time, I hope they do show it, but you never know. We'll find out in two months!
As far as being egged on, that didn't affect me at all. I zone out the crowd all the time cause they're uninformed and yell out bad tips for obstacles. Being good at this has actually hurt me twice. Last year, David yelled at me to step back before the spinning bridge in Vegas which would have been enough to complete it. This year, a few people were yelling at me to not go for the hourglass and if I would have heard that I probably wouldn't have.

I had a friend get hurt last year in Denver they did not show anything about it on the show but he does have video of the run. He did it on the second obstacle and decided to finish as well as try to do the next obstacle the spinning bridge. he said he knew he was badly hurt but still thought he could at least finish. but when he got home he found out he ruptured is Achilles in two places and had to go immediately into surgery as well. I think like him at the moment it happens you think it's not as bad as it actually is and think if you finish and rest you might be able to push through.

I didn't see it, but after hearing a few talk about it I think the last thing I want to see is the injury from 5 different angles while I watch the show with my kid. The more I think about it though, they have to fill the time slot somehow and with not as many finishers that probably really increases the chance they use it for ratings. I'm hoping you have a swift recovery.

a general thought about the difficulty level of different regions. It's all about the top 30 at the qualifiers and top 15 (or more if more than 15 finish)at the finals. So if a course is relatively easier, you still have to be fast enough to progress. I think that this makes it fair enough for everyone. But if you are not good at a particular obstacle that it's early on the course then you are out of luck. I think it's reasonable to say that if they were to change the order of obstacles (or the other variables like the order of people running, etc.) then the finalist list would probably look a bit different. Of course there are some great ninjas that are very consistent with their runs and for them it wouldn't matter as much as for others.

Well, ultimately being a qualifier course should mean in theory it should just be a race against one another (or finish to ensure your spot).

Yes. I guess an argument can be made about difficulty level/fairness if a regional course 1. looks relatively easier than other regions and 2. there more than 15 finishers at the finals. Was that ever the case with ANW? I think it's possible though that there can more than 15 finishers because they are all good athletes and not because the course looks easier than other regions. Nevertheless, since ANW is also a tv show and not just an athletic event, these arguments may not matter as much to the general audience or the anw officials. One could also argue that regardless of difficulty level of regionals if you can't make it there (or if you make it because of the course being easy) then it's very unlikely than you can achieve total victory in Vegas.

It's a combination of both obstacle combinations and overall strength/skill of the competitor list since the stronger competitors tend to be spread out now (although there's been debates on the strongest region). Some obstacles are fundamentally easier/harder than others just as some competitors are just stronger/more skilled at completing them. It's fluid. Difficulty wise the first three ANWs were way easier than the most recent three.
Yes, it doesn't matter from a TV show standpoint (although I'd argue it should considering I have the assumption more people watch the more successful the regions are), but it's also unavoidable that someone who may not have made far for whatever reason in one region would have been better off in a different region whether because the obstacles better suited their skill set or the course turned the competition into "get to x obstacle quicker than everyone else."
