Check out the latest videos on their youtube channel www.youtube.com/user/CrossFitHQ/videosSeems like crossfit is latching onto ANW's popularity and will now probably warp the training methods and market them as their own Look i have nothing against Crossfit overall and i do train some modified crossfit style workouts but there are just things i don't like about the crossfit cult. Their business model is based around anyone can open a crossfit gym as long as they pay their affiliate fees and their 'instructors' complete a basic training course for which they have to pay for. So basically you get people with varying levels of experience doing a quick course and teaching crossfit. That's fine for basic workouts but i really don't like them trying to diversify into specialist areas like freerunning. They have previously also taken on board self defence stuff as well. Self defence needs to be training by an experienced practitioner with real world experience (my instructor trains prison and transit guards in self defence/restraint/protection etc and has managed the doors on some really rough biker bars). Self defence shouldn't be taught by a crossfit gym owner who may have done a one day course. Ditto for freerunning, needs to be taught by proper experienced freerunners, not crossfit gym owners. I know they aren't trying to do this yet, but it may be heading in that direction ! so guys, is ANW's association, even in it's infancy, a good or bad thing ?

To me, both good and bad.
Good because it gives ANW a bit more exposure.
Bad because people will think Crossfit is the ONLY way to be good at ANW. I also dislike Crossfit for a number of other reasons.

CrossFit is most certainly not saying anything of the like. There were a few CrossFit media employees at the training event Philip and I went to (the one in the video) and it was clear they were huge fans of the show. And as I tell CrossFit haters: CrossFit Inc. and CrossFit the community are two completely different things. The community is one of the most supportive you'll ever see.

Peter and Philip summed it up well. Crossfit doesn't have to come right out and say that you should do Crossfit to be good at ANW. People will put that together themselves. This is not necessarily Crossfit's fault. But at the same time, Crossfit HQ has made many ridiculous claims over the years, so to think they might advertise like this at some point is not exactly crazy.
Did you ever start Crossfit that summer like you were planning, RC?

Did you ever start Crossfit that summer like you were planning, RC? I briefly did, but then in the middle of dumbbell snatches I pulled a deltoid and I'm like "nope, not doing CrossFit anymore". At least not without a trainer. By the way, if you're curious about ANW and CrossFit together, Jason Huewe's your guy. He started doing CrossFit before all the CCNWTC stuff came out and he recently made at least one "SasukeFit" workout. But yeah, like I said, CrossFit Inc. and CrossFit the sport are two completely different things. CrossFit is a way to train for Sasuke/Ninja Warrior, but it's not the way, and I don't think they believe it's the way either.

Crossfit is not training because it's randomized. It's not arranged in a way that makes you stronger, faster or better. That's why the top Crossfit competitors don't use it to prepare for the Crossfit Games. If you really really want to add Crossfit to your training, add it at the end as conditioning work.
Have you considered just following a simple novice routine since your injury, RC? Something more simple and logical?
