to raise the ratings slump its been having. Sasuke was huge, I mean it still is, and it has the potential of being one of the biggest phenomenons in Japan. (here too... kinda) But there's something stopping it from becoming it. Do you think its cause there not advertising it enough? Or do you think they need to overhall and change Sasuke? Me personally, I think they need to ease up on the first stages difficulty. I think one of the exciting parts Sasuke used to have, was watching a comedian actually go further than we all thought he could go, or an old guy, or some silly dude. It was, at one time, actually possible for a 60 year old guy to clear the first stage, and that alone was much more exciting. This made Sasuke, for me, exciting from beginning to end. Just my thoughts yep

They should do 22, 23 and 24 the same as the last few shows but hopefully with more advertising. They've finally realized that using the net to get word out via the Muscle Park site is a good thing and cheap to boot. They should also have a few more events like the SASUKE Matsuri - Events that are more specific to SASUKE than the Maguro Festival etc. Do a traveling circus deal with the Muscle Musical and SASUKE tied together.
And SASUKE 25? At 25 they should go all out, only invite the best of the best - no qualifiers, just people who have proven over the years that they can do it, double the prize money with a four hour show (I recommend only three hours for all other broadcasts) and after that...
Stop the show. Blow up the course. Say that that's it for SASUKE..
And start a new show with slightly different rules and feel (but not cartoony like VIKING). No obstacles that tie the new show to SASUKE. Bring back the All-Stars but treat them as the veterans they are at this point, not the focus of the show. Use the first show to establish a new set of potential stars.
Why do that? Because SASUKE is played out in Japan. You're almost reaching a point where the young people who drive TV programming can barely remember a SASUKE in the single digits, much less Kinniku Banzuke. Create a new show and you create a new history that can grow with a new core audience over the years.

I like the idea of going for a super finish and starting a new show, but I don't think they should just completely get rid of Sasuke's history. And I think they should end it with the third Final Stage being defeated and then start fresh from there.

Geez, an 8 million yen grand prize? The mind boggles.
I like the idea of having it end, but I wonder if that'd work. With Sasuke Maniac gone, there's no real way to keep it in the audience's consciousness. Being a semi-annual filler special, it could easily end up running for years and years without any real objections, since it's essentially blink-and-you-miss-it in TV terms.
If you want to reboot, a mini-series may be the best way to go. One idea that popped up was have regional compeititons and then have a representative(s) from each region compete on a final course to see who's got what it takes. The regions would be fairly large, with probably a max of 10, and a sense of local pride gets added once the finals start. Air it twice weekly for a month and you have your filler series.

And if no one ever completes the show again or at least not for a long time? Then we're just stuck in the mire, which is where we are right now.
The reason I don't like the mini-series idea is because it would be hard to find a time to air it that wouldn't be late at night. If Monster 9 had enough pull to put together a show that aired regularly in prime time (the only time it would matter) it would have already. Anything other than prime time is SASUKE Mania redux and is insignificant in terms of ratings and reach.
The whole point of a total reboot is exactly because it could go on and on without anyone noticing it's there. If you want this type of show to make it big, you have to shake it up. And I only think it would work with a new show, not trying to constantly repackage an old one. Even the idea of a regional competition is just a repackage if it's still only SASUKE.
I can already see DOORS surpassing SASUKE in terms of popularity mainly because of the star power. If push comes to shove, TBS could choose DOORS over SASUKE as variety sports type filler.
They should have recreated the idea of SASUKE after 17. They chose to just retool the course and even then they kind of blew it by making it too easy.

Interesting idea on changing Sasuke. I actually miss Viking (granted some things I could have lived without) but yeah I like the idea of taking some of the people we like and creating a new franchise and building new stars out of it. I'm sure by now Shingo is wishing this is over.. LOL He's almost cursed that he has the perfect attendance.. at this point if he wanted to stop he can't..

They should have recreated the idea of SASUKE after 17. They chose to just retool the course and even then they kind of blew it by making it too easy. Too easy? That would infer that there was a winner every show, and that's far from the case (SASUKE 19? Anyone?). Or... did I miss some sarcasm in there?

No sarcasm. I consider 18 to have been a misstep by Monster 9. Had they had the type of results for 18 they had in 19 (not that they could have controlled them) I think it would have reinvigorated the show. And they could have done that by making 18 even harder.
Look at it this way: You finally have someone complete the course in 17. Then in the very next show, during which they have the touted Shin-SASUKE, a decent number of people get pretty far. The message is: Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. If they have a new course that totally destroys people, setting everything you know about SASUKE back to zero wouldn't that pique your interest a bit more?

I like Ube's idea to "blow the course up" after 25 because Sasuke is getting pretty drawn out. When Shingo was 21 he did his first Sasuke now he's 34.(I think) For any show to last over 10 years is a great accomplishment, and Sasuke looks to be on its last leg. Besides it'd be cool to see something new after Sasuke to see how that goes.

Personally I wouldn't want SASUKE to change, at least not for a while longer. I love its current format, and I'm training for it currently. If it suddenly changed now, then I'm not entirely sure what I could do in reaction.

Huh. I was wondering why low ratings were mentioned. I should try to remember, in the future, some people's *cough* habits of resurrecting old threads, which I've heard so much about. ^_^
