I would like to make a motion to shut down the Previous Competitions board. These are interesting glances to the past but they've been extremely inactive in the last few months. Seemingly every post in that board nowadays is a 4-year-old bump. This is only encouraging disciplinary behavior, especially in our newer members.

I see your point but that's kinda drastic, they should stay around open for the chance there is something new to discuss about a particular tournament, not to mention they should still be visible to look up old exclusive info and stuff (hell, I just was looking for something ANW1 for some reason recently). But something that needs to be done is autolocking threads that have been inactive for a period of time (like a year or so), does proboards have some feature like that? I know some forum services do but I don't know about probards...

Nah, I like looking back at those threads for some reason.

Even if there is no auto-locking feature, what if the mods simply lock the "Previous Competitions" boards from Sasuke 26 back? Sasuke 27 and 28 are still fairly recent, so they could be left open, but everything from Sasuke 26 back could be locked. People could still view the boards, but not post anything. If someone did have some relevant information to post in one of the old threads, they could PM a mod and ask that the specific thread be unlocked. This would allow relevant information/updates to be posted, while greatly reducing the useless "bumps" to old threads.

I think an admin should lock every single thread (kinda what rider and tiger said) and sticky more threads, but not all of them. So the only way we can talk about previous competitions is by creating threads.

To be fair, the "Previous Competitions" Board still does have new/relevant material for discussion once in a while, and it is sometimes the best place for certain topics to be placed when they don't fit any of the other boards. However, after seeing/personally moderating many of these issues recently, I can see where many of you are coming from.
The only thing I can see doing at this point is to manually lock old threads one by one. Any threads that may allow for renewed discussion may be stickied (though I'd have to see the other staff members' views on this before doing so) such that those are the only ones displayed at the beginning page(s) of each board and sub-board. Depending on unforeseen circumstances, certain threads will be locked/unstickied or unlocked/stickied; in other words, initially-unlocked threads which become inactive after several months may be locked, while initially-locked threads may be unlocked upon request via PM if someone has a legitimate reason for having it unlocked. If any issues continue to arise even after these actions are implemented, then we can further modify these rules.
Any additional member questions, concerns, and feedback would be appreciated.

I agree with Yamfriend to not shut it down because some a$$hat decides to bump it. I vehemently disagree though of locking old threads. It's cumbersome to the Mods and completely unnecessary because RC wants it done. Considering that RC alone helps the situation by glorifying the "bump" records I doubt he has any standing in coming up with a new policy. There are literally thousands of threads the vast majority of the community has ignored and let die. If you see someone abusing ANY thread for necroing purposes they should just report to a mod and not contribute to the stupidity. I know that the past threads HAVE been used constructively by pointing out a specific reason to either properly bumping and old thread to have a discussion about a specific thing that happened during that time, or what I usually see done is referencing a thread for a specific purpose. Punishing those who don't abuse it because you don't like seeing people doing bump records is just stupid.

Given the opportunity, I would just enable post/thread moderation on the Previous Competitions sections, which would require moderator approval before a post or thread is posted; but that's impossible on ProBoards and there's no plugin to add the feature in either.
So, unless there's some other constructive ideas or comments on the matter, yamfriend & arsenette said it best; and the Previous Competitions sections shall remain as is until further notice.

Personally sometimes I like to look back at the Guessing Games, and no reason really to delete it, you never know what will happen. I vote for it to stay personally.
