I set up a replica of it the other day, jumping off of a ladder onto a horizontal rope, just to see how bad the impact and whiplash was.
Bad idea.
It's hurts a lot more than I thought it would. The impact wasn't too bad, but I got a HUUGE rope burn on my chest and both my hands, to the point were I was bleeding.
Anyway, if you want to replicate it, be careful, it's not a cushiony landing.
I also tried doing it the way takeda and Nagano do it, one arm over and one arm under. That didn't work very well. Less painful, yes, but it was too hard to stay on, and on a bigger scale version like ont he real Sasuke I can imagine it being even tougher.
IMO even though it's dangerous the way Naoki and Levi did it would be the best. That's just my opinion though.
From what we've seen it's quite risky doing that, Naoki flew right over and landed in the water. but it dramatically reduces the impact so if you're a wuss like me it's a good way to handle it.

I think it may be one of those things that you get used to, but I'm not sure. I've only been able to replicate this using a pole not a rope so I wouldn't be able to accurately judge, but I remember when I first jumped onto the pole it hurt terribly. A few times later, it barely hurt at all. The only time I tried this using a rope, there was so much give to the rope that it was basically cutting off my circulation in my arm, so that was going to hurt no matter what I did haha. I'd still think I'd use the way that Nagano and Takeda use simply because it has been the safest and most effective way of clearing the Flying Chute so far that I've seen IMO. I need to find a good spot to do this with a rope like in David Campbell's ANC4 video to be able to judge this obstacle better.

Well I think I had the worst idea in comparison, theres this public volleyball or something net that has the net part broken a bit (it's connected just fine and it has some bounce and it can hold my weight just fine, but let me finish), so I twisted up the net part so it's just a rope, got a runup of (what I guess was about) 100 feet (could be more or so) and then just jump onto it catching it with my armpits. Didn't hurt actually but didn't expect it to whip me back so fast, luckily I hung on but still, I think that's way overdoing it XD (I expected it to whip me back but I didn't expect to whip me back farthur back from the poles than it went away from them on the forwards one XD)

Doesn't the real one have small elastic ends to both "cushion" the impact and then jerk you violently?

Yes it does. So I guess I had the most realistic copy of the rope grab.

I'll just use a normal rope when I make mine.
Then I'll probably take it down after I burn a rope texture into my torso.

or just wear a long sleeve shirt in stage 1, regardless of how goofy it looks

Nah. I'll probably be in my gray tank top.

No, I got a rope burn on my chest that hurt terribly. I still have it D:
Rider: Until you've tried it on a rope, you don't know how bad it hurts. Volley Ball net hurts a lot less, trust me. I've tried both.

Does anyone think that it would be possible to do the Flying Chute by grabbing onto the rope with your hands only? It seems the people that attempt this way (Hiromichi Sato in 18, Nagano in 19, Takamasa Nagasaki in 19, etc.) fail because the rope twists and they have little rope to grip onto when the rope begins to jerk back forcing them to fall off. So if you grab the rope with one hand facing forward and one hand facing back in an attempt to counteract the twisting motion, similar to how some people would do the pipe slider, do you think that would make it possible to do the Flying Chute without causing rope burn on your torso and armpits ?

But then the hand facing back would have to reach and go under the rope and then grab backwards to do so. Hard to execute when you're hurtling towards the thing just trying to grab it.

Also, I think Sato and Nagano, etc. just misjudged the height of the thing; I don't think they were trying to grab it with just their hands.

Well when I replicate the Flying Chute, I usually grab onto it with one hand under and back and then the other arm over, so that's where I got the idea. I also thought that you may not need to get nearly as much momentum on the slide if you do it with your hands only, because it seems that when people transfer from the rope being over them to hanging on with their hands they get a lot more momentum. Also, I put Nagano, Sato, and Takamasa there, because I couldn't think of anyone that actually tried it the way I'm describing haha.

You could do it with just your hands, it'd just be a lot harder. And remember the water underneath you. A lot of times when people hang from their hands and try to swing to the net, their feet skim the water.

My thoughts exactly, shingo was hanging and his feet hit the wander. He's japanese, meaning he's short.
If some 6'2 american did it not only would they be taller so more chance of touching the water, but your momentum is going downward. It'd stretch the rope and you'd probably touch the water.
Levi's way was good but dangerous, if you have good grip though it shouldn't matter too much.

My plan when I build mine soon is to just catch it like most of the people do and try to hold my legs up.
I'll make it close to the ground and count touching the ground as a disqualification.

Figures.. I've spent alot of time since 21 jumping off slides and practicing the catch.. And it's all for nothing now...
