It's no different than the Cards winning via the Wild Card or Packers last season. Hell, no different than singing competitions who bring in Wild Cards. The only real problem IMO is that it seems that this option wasn't decided on beforehand, like those examples I listed. I'm not even sure they know exactly how this is going to work. Everytime I talked to them they seem to be changing what they were going to do. Either way.. 100 people will be going to Vegas and I'm not freaked out about the 10 spots going to wildcards regardless of who they are. It is a gameshow after all and 90 spots are earned via trials. That's far more than even Sasuke. Hell I've always argued that the ones who did well in Sasuke shouldn't be thrown into the dog and pony show that is trials here in the USA so at this point I don't care

Get Shaq and 9 other celebs..... make it fair.... Edit let me elaborate: What if Levi wins? How can you justify this to the 90 competitors who earned their spot? It's absolutely BS. Getting the celebs will also get more people to watch alla the Sasuke Broadcasts. It's no different than the Cards winning via the Wild Card or Packers last season. Hell, no different than singing competitions who bring in Wild Cards. The only real problem IMO is that it seems that this option wasn't decided on beforehand, like those examples I listed. The wildcards in your case earned it by either impressing the judges in THAT competition or by having a great record. Here Levi and Brian are getting in, and well.... they didn't even make it to the warped wall. How about all the other guys who made it up the warped wall? Not fair...

We are talking about 2 competitions. In years past you had 10 slots going to Japan. Now it's a whole different ballgame.. 100 to Vegas. As far as I'm concerned.. they are completely different.

Well in that case I'll put your mind at ease TCM. Somewhere in the mass of paperwork they have each competitor read and sign there is a section that goes over the rules of how the top 100 are chosen. 6 regional tryouts will find 30 competitors that will be taken down to 15 from each region (regions don't compete with other region) giving 90 qualifiers for Vegas with 10 wild cards to be chosen at the producers discretion. So the wild card spots were common knowledge amongst the competitors before the tryouts started

So the wild card spots were common knowledge amongst the competitors before the tryouts started Hmm interesting that it's not going head to head as they originally were planning. They originally were going with top times and I mentioned that the regions would be lopsided if that happened. Glad they found a way to make it even all the way through. I actually like that. Still sucks for someone in a heavy region being edged out but I'd be unhappy if someone from say Miami got eliminated from a run made in Dallas or L.A. So while not perfect this is by far the better way to run this. Glad they thought it out! Again I don't mind the wildcards. Addresses several problem they had. a) lopsided number given we have 3 regions b) putting extra people just for the NBC broadcast they can push and c) putting people they WANT that didn't do well in trials. I'm sure that last one is the one that's bugging people but given that it's only 10 overall in a field of 100 and 90 are trials only I have no issues with it.

You're right, Arsenette. My gripe is with the last one. Sasuke and ANW have always been about performing well on game day. Bad performance = end of the road for you. This throws that out the window. I understand there are a few problems with the regions method and this wild card thing kind of fixes them, but I'm only ok with this if it's decided at random. I mean, come on. We all know G4 would send the same few people each time.

We all know G4 would send the same few people each time. At first I cringed then put it into perspective. It's only 10 of 100. And yes.. it does bite if someone failed but got in anyway... but as I've always said with consistency with Sasuke. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get people who are "known" for the casual audience to latch on. We don't know exactly until Miami is done who the 10 will be but as long as they stick to the formula 90 straight from trials that's a HELL of a lot better than a voting process from ANC1 and a step up from having boot camp (yes yes.. I know a lot of ya'll liked it but overall it was not well received). So while not perfect it's about the only thing to do at this point and I'm glad they have instituted the wildcard thing. Hell.. when I talked to them they hadn't even thought about it.. /facepalm Not quite the set up I wanted but still a way for them to get what they want and have 90 people earn their spot to the big show.

Yeah, you're right. Thanks for making it seem less annoying.
...But I still maintain that no one liked boot camp. Don't let them lie to you.

I'm fine with the wildcard thing because I never thought former Stage 3 people should have had to re-qualify anyway.
It's not like any of the notable Japanese stars have to go through trials each time, so the whole thing of "its about performing well on game day" doesn't apply to this. They never perform at all on (trial) game day.

See, my view of it has always been that if they did so great in Japan, they should be able to breeze through the ANW course. Just a difference of opinion.

I'm guessing that most of the wildcards will go to girls that did fairly well (or are just really hot), since that's kinda the only way they're going to have any girls there.

I still think there's some trolling going on
Ryan has always been booked for Miami.
I think it was a "just 4 fun run" like in ANW2

They never perform at all on (trial) game day. Actually they have.. well depends on what you call notable. What I found funny was when Tajima got to the 3rd stage and even Yuuji in the 2nd.. they were audibly relieved they didn't have to go back to Sasuke Trials. Hell Tajima said it on the final platform after he failed the Gliding Ring.. This only pertains to those who were in trials to begin with. Once you made star status you were able to come back without having to either a) go into the application pool (like Bunpei did his 2nd time (and didn't come out) and even Nagano after Sasuke 8) or b) Back to trials (if they were even picked at all.. Yuuji's been left out a few times along the way). It's just regardless of how they got there they were guaranteed a shot back when they cleared stage 1 even once. I know it's a difference of opinion but if this show (ANW) is even marginally connected in spirit to the original I would prefer some consistency.. but they have never been interested in that. (but that's another thread and another dead horse to keep beating on.. LOL)

See, my view of it has always been that if they did so great in Japan, they should be able to breeze through the ANW course. Just a difference of opinion. While I can see those who have that opinion, should doesn't mean they will. Just look at Sasuke's course. If you've gotten consistently far, you should be able to breeze through the previous stages (especially if they were untouched), but s*** happens. And considering the absurdity of how G4 handles something as simple as the first obstacle for their course, I would trust that assumption even less.

When s*** happens, I feel it should be accepted, and no matter what kind of slimy log G4 throws at you, I believe your training should be sufficient to beat it. If not, better luck next time. And I don't believe in luck or any of that stuff. If you fail, you made a mistake somewhere along the line. Even at ANW3, so many people complained about the water on the steps and on the pads leading up to the Warped Wall. Yet people continued to pass. It wasn't impossible. Those who were still passing were doing something that the others weren't.
The phrase should be, "s*** happens, now get over it and train harder."

Those who were still passing were doing something that the others weren't." Oti is right. The thing that the people who passed were doing was not letting it get in there head. Yes at ANW3 the Quad Steps were wet but that did not cause them to be slippery (now if your shoes were wet and you stepped on the tape that is a different matter, but then again you shouldn't use a technique that give you no control of where you step) I ran the Quad Steps completely wet (it had been raining heavily all morning and was sprinkling just a bit during my run) and completely dry at ANW3 there was no difference
