In short, how well do you think Yamada would do if there was no Warped Wall? I mean, he failed there in Sasuke 17, 21, 24, and pretty much failed there in Sasuke 23 as well. So, that's the question. How far would he have gotten in those tournaments if the Warped Wall wasn't there? I personally think he would do better, maybe even reach the second stage, though I have to admit the third is a stretch. I highly doubt he could reach the final, let alone complete it, but he would still get much further than he normally does. The only other place he might have failed was the Slider Jump, but like the Jumping Spider, I'm sure he could have cleared it on his second or third try. He failed it in Sasuke 27 as well. I put this bit down here because where I originally put it, you could see it when you highlighted the post... Great, my first topic and that happens.

He would do much better IMO. Between that and the jumping spider that's really all he fails. I actually think his training hurts him much more than it helps him on those obstacles. He was training on a short warped wall for years. Getting used to an easier version of the obstacle doesn't sound like it would prepare you for the real deal.

I'd say he'd get to the Metal Spin. He isn't the fastest person in the world, and you need a lot of speed on that obstacle.

Yamada would at least clear the first stage if there was no Warped Wall. I don't really see him having much trouble in the second stage, except maybe, as Philip said, on the Metal Spin. If he could clear that, though, I think he'd get to the third stage, and probably go pretty far into it. A lot of his training is upper body. He'd probably at least get to the UCH.

If there was no Soritatsu Kabe, I think these are the most likely scenarios:
1. First Stage time out (most likely) 2. He gets Metal Spun 3. Second Stage time out 4. Deep into third stage
He's strong, but he's not agile or fast. He only had forty seconds left before the Wall and that was one of the most lenient time limits we've seen in a while. Since he's never gotten there we don't know how fast he is on the Rope Ladder, but his age and usually slow speed aren't promising.
The time limit and Metal Spin are the only things that would stop him in Stage 2. I don't think he'd time out, but it's possible.
He'd probably get to the UCH's 4th or 5th ledge if he got that far. The UCH is hard on people not experienced with Cliffhanger obstacles, and he hasn't been to a real Cliffhanger since, oh, SASUKE 10 or something like that. Even though he trains on replicas he'd probably psyche himself out or pull a David Campbell.
EDIT: apparently he got there in 18. Still IMO he'd time out.

Metal Spin. That obstacle is a serious problem for a) anyone who cannot get a fast enough run up to it and b) anyone who cannot jump far enough to get the best grip on it. I can't really see Yamada doing it. If he somehow could, then I think that probably go very far into or clear the Third Stage. Almost all of his training revolves around cliffhangers and he's still a very strong dude. He knows very well that if he ever does clear the First Stage, he'd better be in shape to have the run of his life.

Replace the Soritatsu Kabe with the Great Wall from 18 = a possible 1st stage clear. Most likely though he would time out on the rope ladder, it took him nearly a minute to get up the rope ladder. So they bring back the rope climb, then its a very likely clear.
I think he'd have trouble with the Metal Spin, obviously he isn't very fast anymore but I think he could still clear.

I've always thought that he would shine in stage 2 and 3. I would love to see him on the DSL or flying bar. I think he'd go down somewhere on stage 3.

Actually on second thought, I can see him falling like a rock on the balance tank.

well he cleared the older version of it so I would say skill-based obstacles in stage 2 or 3, or a stage 2 timeout if it was 17, 21 and 23.

Stage 1 timeout, wall or no wall. It's in his head now.

He would do so much better. The only obstacles he ever really fails is the jumping spider and warped wall. So with the warped wall out he would probably complete the first stage alot more often. It sucks he can never pass stage 1
