www.tbs.co.jp/talent-meikan/gachi/index-j.htmlOkay going to be doing a blog.. but I ran into this on twitter this afternoon.. it's been retweeted and whatnot and google keeps saying sumo.. so not sure if that translation is correct or if it's wrestling.. no matter. He's going to be in a TBS special next week on the 25th (a Sunday) with Dante (former competitor as well) and Kasuga from Audrey (also a former competitor) and Bobby Ologun (also former competitor) and a few other people that look familiar but I'm unsure who they are off the bat. If anyone can help please let me know. I'll be working on a blog for it. ETA: Definitely it's sumo..

This ought to be good. Somehow I'm having a hard time picturing Yamada doing sumo. He's strong though, so he should be pretty good at this. As long as he doesn't end up going against that 280 pound guy! Actually, that would depend on if it's sumo or some other kind of wrestling. If it's sumo, then Yamada would be at a disadvantage against someone so much bigger than him. If it's something like submission wrestling, he might have a chance. I've grappled with guys much bigger than me before. In submission fighting technique is more important than strength. Anyway, this looks like it will be cool. I'm not sure if I'll watch it or not. 7 PM Japan time is about 5 AM my time. I'll have to decide whether or not I feel like getting up that early. I might just wait for your blog. I'll have to see how I feel next Sunday.

Working on the blog now. Finding all sorts of articles and whatnot so I'll post it when I'm done. He's going up against a 30 year old that's heavier than him and right now not entirely sure what he is since this seems to be a celebrity match. Poor Dante is going up against Bobby.. that's going to be interesting.. I'll be up watching it. That's 6 am Sunday morning for me and it's only an hour if I read it correctly. Either way should be interesting and most likely worth a blog if I can find enough information so I know what I'm looking at. Also given that it's a week before Sasuke and 4 of the competitors are former or current Sasuke competitors.. TBS might throw in a Sasuke commercial during it. So fair warning for those who are watching that TBS might run those commercials during that hour to tie both things together. To my knowledge though.. they are not tied together.

Yamada's initial match will be against the 91 kg 30-year-old. The way they've got the chart set up is called the "bi-system." We use it at the local martial arts tournaments. If Yamada wins the match, he'll have to go up against another fighter, and so on. He could still end up going against the 280 pound guy.

"I was a bit surprised honestly since I never even knew this existed."
This is only the second time they are doing this. And the first time was this spring. It's not like it's some secret that no one has never heard of.
The "full blogs dedicated to it" is not a blog. It's a reposting of 2ch threads. There are lots of Japanese blogs that do that.
Unless Yamada wins his matches, there won't be much of him. He's the least famous person in the whole group.
The person he is going up against is a comedian whose schtick is that of a dancing sumo wrestler. He has not had any real sumo training.
Yamada has a chance of at least reaching the finals of the qualifying but I think Bobby Olugun is the probable winner.

I did find that one clip online in that one "blog" i thought was a blog but didn't realize it was a reprint of 2ch. You weren't around this afternoon my time so I had to guess Agreed that I think Bobby will be the one prevailing in the celeb qualifying bracket.

Yamada can't win. When he's about to lose his ankle will start hurting. He has no chance.

One other note:
This show is NOT related to Sasuke 27, however, if you do choose to watch it, who knows what kinda content it might have, especially during commericials.
While I highly doubt anything would be spoiled, it is something to make a note of just in case.

There is a chance that they will mention SASUKE 27 when they intro Yamada. Maybe play a little picture-in-picture with the date and time in the corner. That's the usual way variety shows will do stuff. That's about all I'm expecting during the actual broadcast.
How much they show of Yamada depends on the format of the show. If it's just the sumo tournament he'll get a couple minutes of screen time. If it's the regular show (it's usually one hour) with the sumo stuff on top of it, his time will be shortened. Remember, this is a special edition of a regular quiz/variety show, not a standalone once a year thing.

And it's actually six people who have been on SASUKE: Minowaman, Bobby, Dante, Yamada, Antonio Koinoki and Kasuga.

One last thing: it will probably get a bump since it is during the gap period between dramas which always kind of throws ratings off but the show does not turn up on the Video Research page which means it is not an overall top ten variety show. According to some other data, it generally places in the middle for Sundays and it's rating hovers around a 9 or so. Not great but at least it's during Golden Time.

Ah cool thanks Ube. I'll update that as well and no I didn't know the other stuff either (forgot about Minowaman and I don't recognize Koinoki by name). I don't expect much either in terms of Sasuke connection either but who knows.. maybe they will at the very least have a commercial since it would be a week away from the Sasuke broadcast. I would hope at least.. Given also that the show is almost 2 hours long who knows if they will show much of him.. after all they had him in 3 minutes featured at the start and still managed to cut him from the broadcast... so I don't expect much. Hey.. I watch sumo as it is.. this is just going for fun so should be entertaining for me to watch.

So, question from all those who believe in the word "sleep." What happened exactly?
