Unless they showed it slightly out of order.
Seriously though that ranks up there with some of the falls that really hit hard. As someone who had dreamed and I mean literally had dreams of just getting there I just really felt that. Sorry man.

Every single 3rd stage competitor's run was downright inspiring.
We will never have to ask who the Hell is James McGrath anymore. Strat is officially my new hero. I can't believe Paul did what he did. And David, ugh, unbelievable man. Great work.
For one, beyond the insane time limit, I like the way the stages look now. Just like the early tournaments, the challenge lies in the later stages. Best of all, I don't see it being absurd to see people like Yamada, Yamamoto, and the Shin Sei going deep.
SASUKE 27 really has my attention now.

Anyone else feel their allegiance shift throughout the episode? I went in wanting them to do great, then changed my mind after stage 1 and wanted the course to kick their a**, then after stage 2 I was cheering like crazy when David hit that final ledge.

Campbells fail was so dramatic I mean I thought he would fail the UCH again and I said late in but never thought it would be as close to the end as that! Unreal.
I still think one of the Japanese/ Lee will turn the UCH over though in the tbs airing and my pre emption of someone making the final I still think is very very possible.

The second stage separates the elite from the super elite anyway so there was no real reason for the first stage to be as hard as it was.

I don't see any way we don't see Yuuji finally get a shot at the UCH, except for maybe the chain on stage 2. He'd have to make an incredibly terrible and stupid mistake to fail that stage 1.

Other quick thoughts:
Am I the only who couldn't believe that someone failed the Slider Drop again? Also, we didn't need Levi this time around, Young Flip was essentially his clone.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, God bless Drew Drechsel. Am I right in saying he went directly to a hospital, meaning he didn't even get to see the rest of the tournament? If so, that is so unfair.
Great runs by both Travis' (?) this tournament. I audibly gasped when Furlanic failed the Metal Spin. Did not see that coming at all.

Yeah Travis' fail was very surprising, I could've sworn that would be Brent in that preview but as it turned out Brent shared the same fate anyway

The Metal Spin was once again a sleeping killer. I think the leap must have been further than ever.
I was literally SCREAMING the whole time during David's Ultimate Cliffhanger attempt.
Absolutely every American did a stunning job. Without Drew's freak accident, there would've been a perfect 10/10 for the first stage.
2 HUGE complaints:
1.) What in the name of Jesus were the producers thinking putting a TINY, UNPADDED landing space for the Halfpipe Attack? People have sustained serious injuries on the original. It was a dangerous and foolish decision and I hope they seriously rethink the obstacle next time.
2.) The Slider Drop is still a crap obstacle. It's 100% pure luck and has absolutely no place on the course.
2 things I LOVED:
1.) The surprisingly easier first stage. The Rolling Escargot had cubby-like spaces for the feet which prevented unfair slipping. I believe it is now a fair obstacle and will allow everyone with the proper ability to pass it.
2.) The easier beginning to the third stage. The Ultimate Cliffhanger is almost impossible on its own so having 2 easier obstacles before it allows competitors to have at least a tiny chance.
The Arm Bike is a fair first obstacle and the Flying Bar is actually quite reasonable. I think the trick to clearing the Ultimate Cliffhanger is to absolutely master and perfect the technique on the Flying Bar. (Of course, they might change the course again...)
Overall the third stage doesn't seem quite as menacing now. There's an opportunity for a rest after the Ring Jump (name?) and the Chainsaw (name?) looks like filler.

I really wish I'd taken note of the "Likes" the G4-run Ninja Warrior Facebook page had before the broadcast, so I could compare it to now to see how many people were inspired to Like it just from watching tonight.

For those who watched the whole thing (I missed the 1st hour), 2 questions:
1) How well did the opening set up the show and the competitors? If you had been a new viewer, would you have been able to figure out what was going on?
2) Did they show any reaction shots of the crowd during the 1st Stage?

They did say SASUKE, and they did talk a bit about the history, but they did NOT say that 100 competitors attempt it each time (including this time) helping to keep the illusion that its just americans. 2. No.

If you had been a new viewer, would you have been able to figure out what was going on? They did a great job summarizing the history of Sasuke for a few minutes at the beginning of the show. And yes, they actually used the term "Sasuke" contrary to the assumption of the hyperconversative posters here. And dudesky... they said there were 26 competitions over 14 yearsand 2600 total attempts, what more do you want? They even showed a significant highlight reel of the very first Sasuke.

Don't knock the chainsaw... it looks hard as hell. Think about holding onto the surfaces of the roullete cylind combined with the unbalanced 2nd Unstable Bridge board, combined with the jumping bars.
Still sound easy?

Heh.. as a bonafide hyperconservative poster and unabashed.. I was happy to read the string of expletives from people getting pissed that the rest of the competitors were not only cut off from the show, not even acknowledged and did everything they could to make it look like they were there alone. Glad I'm not alone Though someone on the G4 boards needs to explain that to the Mods who are getting pissed that we aren't getting with the program calling it American Ninja Warrior when ti's actually Sasuke

If you had been a new viewer, would you have been able to figure out what was going on? 2) Did they show any reaction shots of the crowd during the 1st Stage? 1) They did not mention the Japanese competitors at all, but they did refer to the course as Sasuke multiple times and they showed multiple clips from past Sasukes as well as a short history segment. They mentioned the 3 winners multiple times as well. It is clear that it is a Japanese obstacle course and that Japanese competitors compete on it, but it was ignored that there were others running the course that day and for the most part you couldn't even tell that anyone else was there. As for the American competitors, naturally they covered them very extensively- more so than any competitor in the Japanese broadcast. 2) There were zero reaction shots. The Japanese announcer was not used this time. You could hear him, but it was very faint. The two American hosts did all the commentary.

OK, so G4 tried (emphasis on tried) to not show any Japanese competitors or even their fans to the point where they used SASUKE 22 reaction shots in the commercial for ANW on NBC (link was posted in another thread). That's...odd.

Yeah, they should've gone so far as to censor the japanese people in the background!
