Interesting idea I came up with while watching Ninja Warrior on g4 today. (I know, I was shocked when it was on and not Cops as well)
Spare the final stage, what would Sasuke be like if the third stage was the first stage, and the first stage the third? How do you think the results would pan out? Personally I feel like if this is pre-25, we may possibly have more clears than stage one. I've watched some of these competitors (keep in mind I haven't watched Sasuke a ton in a while) and they're very strong. Back before the days of the Ultimate Cliffhanger, and obstacles of that caliber, maybe we would have seen upwards of 10 clears had the third stage been the first. As for the other end of the spectrum, the first stage being the third, that would serve the purpose it serves now, to weed out those who lack the speed and skill to clear.

1st situation: Takeda would be a 13-time finalist
2nd situation: Takeda's screwed and becomes the new Katsumi Yamada (always held back by Stage 1)
Though in theory because the Third Stage would come first, the second situation would always apply.

There's not 2 different situations, it's 1 situation.

Very interesting question. I'll base my answer off of Shin-Sasuke.
I don't know if more than 6 people could have cleared the SCH on the first attempt for Sasuke 18, but I could see better results in 19 and 20.
I'm sure at least 50% of competitors who cleared the third stage would be able to clear the second and then the first.
It could be possible that there would be more clears overall since everyone's fresh and awake going into the third stage.

Why must our forums constantly think of ways to torture Yasuo Aoki?

Why must our forums constantly think of ways to torture Yasuo Aoki? He'd probably be better than on Stage 1

I mean he's old, but maybe he'd actually clear the first obstacle He was able to hang onto the Rope Glider until the very bottom. The only third stage obstacle I could see him clearing would be Sasuke 2's Pillar Path.

It would be interesting to see how Octopus would do.

It would be interesting to see how Octopus would do. Not really. I doubt he could beat the first obstacle in any incarnation of the third stage.
