My vote would have gone to Jim Gaffigan...but he's not here. Second, would be Demetri Martin at the moment.

George Carlin, now and forever. When he died, the world got a whole helluva lot stupider. I actually take my signature from a line out of one of the books he wrote.
Bill Maher would probably be my second favorite, but I also like Jeff Dunham (Walter kicks a**), Demitri Martin, and the Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys.
If we can include people who have done stand-up but are better known for other work, I simply have to say:
Robin Williams: Live on Broadway.

but if i had a carlin sig it'd probbably be... Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?
