Hi, I've been making a 2D ninja warrior game. Unlike G4's version, it's seemless from obstable to obstable. I've almost finished it, just touching up a few things but wanna ask you guys a few questions.
How hard should it be? I had one early tester constantly fail the first jumps
Should the PC feel like he's watching parts of a SASUKE broadcast? At the moment it feels like he's broken into a deserted course
Do you want a crowd? Apparently some people disliked a booing crowd in the G4 version
Do you want a commentator? This would be awkward/hard to programme
Any feedback appricated

Awesome. You're awesome.
In my opinion, you only need the core of Sasuke. The obstacles. The audience, the commentators, I really don't think are that necessary. A generic background theme, imo, is fine. But I'd rather at least have the audience. It would add to the simulation.
The obstacles should be hard, but I hope you know the line between challenging and frustrating. But honestly, I don't care about the difficulty, because my problem with all these Ninja Warrior games, is that they're either too hard to understand, or so bugged out that it becomes hard.
My suggestion would be to add directions before each obstacle. A sentence or two as to how to control yourself on the obstacle.
Even if the game is easy, alot of people on this forum, I'm sure, will do speed runs, so regardless of the difficulty, as long as it has minimal bugs and is easy to understand, We will have a blast playing it.
Good luck!

You should check out the SASUKE games created by TBS and Monster9(the broadcaster and producer of SASUKE, respectively) You can find videos on the Games Leader board in the General Sasuke forum. We've(scnoi, G4fan, Rider, and myself primarily) beaten those games over and over for the sole purpose of getting faster. Those don't have crowds or announcers. Now, I'm honestly not expecting much(my standards have become much lower since an influx of certain idiots on this forum), but I'm still really hoping that this game will be cool. More power to ya.
Also, out of curiosity, how are you programming this game?

Word of advice, make it fast paced. Pretty much every Sasuke game out there is extremely slow. A 1 minute stage 1 takes like 7 minutes to complete. It's crazy.

Another thing to add is your character has stamina. If he runs out he's slower and can't grip
Stage 1 is 80 seconds, though this is lienient. It use to be 90 with a shorter course. Providing no mistakes, you should complete it before the klaxon. It's more agility based
Stage 2 is shorter, but the timer is tighter. It deviated most from standard Sasuke, due to the 2D nature, and is primarliy a speed course. Most obstables are good at draining your stamina
Stage 3 had no real time limit, but your max stamina is is dependant on obstables cleared. However, there's no penelty for just gauging the correct run-up
Stage 4 is the tower. 30 seconds with little room for error

My advice is NO CROWD. At least don't make them boo at you when you fail. EDIT: Make it more like Sasuke. Don't treat the competitor like a ninja like G4 did.

Well because the player runs to the right, the crowd would be behind them. I would add others watching, as soon as I figure the logic out.
BTW, there's 2 difficulties, Ninja and Ninja Warrior. 'Easy' mode givens you unlimited retries at a stage. Hard mode is a one hit point run. The fifth achievement can only be gotten in Ninja Warrior

I can play an instrument that, when played incorrectly, sounds like traditional Japanese music.

Just started changing stage 3. One obstable was a devil steps like challenge, but whilst it drained stamina (which is vital for S3) it was virtully impossible to fail, so a new obstable has been added, remersent of one of the original stage 3 challenges

I plan to release this week, if all goes well
I've changed the 3rd stage so much, I'm gonna add the original as a bonus level
Oh if anyone's completed the G4 version, how do they recreate the cliffhanger

The entire 3rd Stage is just the click up to the yellow circle with the occasional jump. If you mean in terms of which version then it's the one from 9-17 (aka 3rd or Altered version).

Yeah G4's 3rd stage was a barely interactive movie. Boring as hell.

I'm looking forward to this. I dropped my Sasuke game a long time ago, but maybe this will give me the motivation to finish it.
