Depends on where you are... Remember how you had that giant wide part before the curtain slider yet from the HPA to the SK it was a balance walk? And this was the same first stage?...

Usually I think it's around 3 steps(around 1.5m) wide.

would be easier if there was an aerial photo available. You've never seen a Japanese broadcast have you?... EDIT: I even made a demotivator of how much they do that And like I said.. depends on where you are on the course

Depends on the obstacle, basically like Rider said. The Log Grip's mat was enormous, but the Circle Hammer's was tiny.
Why, exactly?

The starting platform has also changed in size in every single tournament as well.

Yeah, Look how narrow it is in the days of the Maruta Nobori compared to the days of Shin Sasuke... And look for that pic from 26...
So I don't think you can make a science of mat size XD

It all depends how many underground rigging things they want to cover up honestly. Things like if the obstacles are closer together.. if the pathways for building are near the mats.. if they changed the angle of entry.. if the paths wind in different ways to fit other obstacles in between.. if they want to shove a cameraguy near it.. LOL so many variables.
