The Cube is a UK game show where players must play seven games inside "The Cube" to win 250,000 pounds - however, these games are deceptively difficult. If you've ever watched Viking, the first game may seem a bit familiar...

I like this show more than Minute to Win It. I heard CBS plans on taping a US pilot of The Cube (Neil Patrick Harris as host), they even used the UK set, don't know when it's going to air though.

yeah I've been watching it since you gave that link actually, it's 10x better than minute to win it. Similar concept as in the games are simple, the only difference is obviously they are a little harder to replicate. Them being in a cube doesn't really change much though. It seems like such easy money though... 1 pound is equivalant to 1.5 USD. So 250,000 would actually be 375,000. All you have to do is beat what, 7 games? You have 9 lives, a trial run, and a simplifier that basically guarantees you win at least one game? Easy money!  |

That's exactly why only two people won 100,000 and declined the final challenge Or they just suck, or are too scared to continue  A lot of people take the money and run because of uncertainty. None of the challenges I watched looked like they'd take me more than say, 3 lives. Of course I know it's more nerve wrecking when you're there, but seriously walking on a balance beam 3 meters? Come onnnn. The stacking one is the only one I'm not sure I'd be able to do without wasting a LOT of lives. But I'd like to think I'd be smart enough to use my simplify on a challenge I think would be hard for me BEFORE I started wasting lives. |

Well, if you were lucky to keep your helps, I don't think you can use them on the final challenge. Not to mention the final challenge will be the event you had the most trouble on, just harder. Also take in account people win amounts beyond what they aimed for. UK'ers are WAY more sensible I feel when it comes to knowing when to leave in game shows. Especially Deal or No Deal.

Yeah I understand the final challenge is pretty difficult, but the fact that it's an event you've done before COULD actually be its downfall. Obviously it scares people because they realize they had trouble with it, BUT that also means they have a lot of experience doing it.
Though I didn't know none of your helps worked on it.
Still, even if you take 250,000 out of the equation, you can get 100,000 pounds fairly easily.
You can win high amounts without putting yourself at too much risk, 9 lives? That's a lot of leeway on when to stop, and 2 helps. One to help you through a challenge and one to test it out before you make your decision.
I can understand why people would take their money and run with those stipulations.
Obviously there are easier ways to get a lot of money. Deal or no Deal and who wants to be a millionaire come to mind, but it's still a good payout.
I mean, compare this to "Do you know the lyrics" where you'd get maybe $15,000 a show by being perfect.

The entirety of the mood and demeanor of the UK's version of Deal or No Deal is different. It's not a party atmosphere with screaming audience members, models, and over-the-top "this is why the audience should love me" contestants.
Plus, the contestants there aren't on a 2-day trip that will be over before they can absorb the gravity of the situation. They are participants on the show holding a box for game after game for (usually) weeks before they get their turn to play. That changes the mentality from "this is my one shot at a million bucks I wanna have fun yay no deal woo oh no I lost" to "I've seen others leave with 50 GBP, and I'd like to leave with enough money to pay some bills".
In short, I think the atmosphere and casting are much larger influences than these generalizations of the citizenry of the two nations.

its that easy it made a double olympic champ on her knee's, but i would def apply for a crack at the cube and would def go for the £250k chalenge, it will be beaten eventually

might be an old thread but mo farah the uk's 5000m world champion beat the cube and becomes the first person to ever beat it and won the £250,000 for charity

Yeah, I heard about that. Hope it ends up on YouTube when it airs. The rare times in game shows where the celebrity is the first to win the big prize. According to what I read, he beat the entire game with little trouble lol. I still hope a civilian will win soon.

it was aired on uk tv this evening, he lost a total of 3 lives (2 in the first game and 1 in the final game) he basically blew the cube to bits. but am sure a civilian will beat it, they all get to the last game and wimp out
