I always think about how much effort it takes for these STQ'ers to get onto Sasuke and I wonder how Nagano was able to make his debut. I don't think there were trials at that time (correct me if i'm wrong) and he was not famous for any reason before appearing on Sasuke. Does anybody know?

He sent in an application for Sasuke 6 and was not originally accepted but they called him later but he was unable to make it. He applied for Sasuke 7 and this time got on.

His younger coworker introduced it to him by showing him a VHS tape of it. Nagano thought it was friggin' easy and so he entered an application with a video that was made by his coworker (that handstand at the top of the mast, etc. etc.) and with less than a week to go he got an invite to Sasuke 6 because someone had to drop out at the last moment. He wasn't available so he was asked to come back in Sasuke 7 and still got cut from the broadcast

Didnt Yamada introduce him to Sasuke? Complete TBS fabrication of which Nagano wasn't exactly pleased with.

^What Elsie said. TBS used to play up their relationship quite a bit. They are good friends, and they have trained together, but Nagano wasn't Yamada's "protege." Nagano was not happy about TBS saying that, however, Nagano himself said that when he first watched Sasuke he was very impressed by Yamada and wanted to meet him. Yamada was the first All-Star that Nagano became friends with.

I think he one of the few who can validate that opinion to some degree haha. In Strat's video of Day 1 of the Q&A Session when Nagano was in Florida (2008) he was talking about how he thought it was friggin' easy and then got his butt whooped on the wall .. then he had to reconsider..what was funny though was that he was laughing at the audience because he saw a few faces in the crowd that he thought had that opinion of Sasuke "So you guys think this is easy right?"..

Yeah I remember reading the poll on here asking how far one would go in sasuke. I couldn't believe the results. At the time I don't think any of us on here would pass the first stage let alone get to the shin-cliff hanger or complete all four as some people thought they would. It's true that Sasuke is probably a million times harder than it looks but if anyone has the right to say that its easy he is definitely in the top three haha.

True but he was saying that the irony of the situation was that he himself was cocky in the beginning to think it was.. he no longer thinks that .. from the second he stepped foot in Sasuke 7.

Rider you are correct. His younger coworker introduced it to him by showing him a VHS tape of it. Nagano thought it was friggin' easy lol I wonder if Makoto's friend didn't show him footage from the most recent sasuke which was 5, the hardest yet. If he thought it looked friggin' easy then maybe he really saw clips of a previous tournament.

Dunno which one he was shown. I do know that Nagano loved shows like this since he was a big fan of Takeshi's Castle.

Even i thought that was easy. :-p. the curved S.Kabe was introduced in 5 with only i think Takeda, Shingo, Yamada beating it ( i may be wrong ). Nagano was beaten by that obstacle in 7 & 8. iirc, Nagano once said the hardest part of the wall was that it was hard to keep your body upright, while running up the steep slope, one will have a natural tendency to lean forward. from an experiment i tried just by running up the stairs, i found that it was easier to lean forward & found it harder if my body was perfectly upright. i can imagine it must be even harder if you had to lean back to grab the top edge of the wall. all these are just my own speculation of course.

thanks for the link. i liked Nagano's philosophy. his example of the failed olympic swimmer rescuing a drowning man was simple but his point was clear.

Take it from a Warped Wall casualty of war: leaning back while running up is key. During my run, I had all my momentum going forward, and just stumbled into it when I tried to jump. Once I learned the "right" way, though, it was fine. I will say that it was some consolation when I found that Nagano, The Man HimSELF, failed the warped wall in his first two outings!

saw your youtube clip, you did great on the wall! the wall is usually placed near the end. it is harder when lactic acid is in your legs after around 50 seconds of clearing obstacles. you need strength in the thighs, core & lower back. Stamina & technique are required too. Of course being taller is an advantage ( Nagano has a height disadvantage ) but i recalled the tall Paul Anthony Terek attempting it twice in sasuke 22 so all is fair & square.
