Election day in Japan and the current ruling party, the 民主党 (Democratic Party of Japan or DPJ), is trying to use some athlete star power this time around. The biggest name is judoka Ryoko Tani. Iketani is a recognizable name but she's the one pulling all the press. They are both running as proportional candidates - people vote for individual candidates in their area and also the party. Maybe if it was Naoki the DPJ would have had a better shot. Why? Naoki wasn't even an Olympian let alone Olympic Champion.. Outside of M9 events.. Naoki has no name other than the brother of the famous gymnast  |

I mean, if the guy wants to do that because he thinks he can do something good for the people, go ahead, but when it's about placing famous people who have nothing to do with this kind of thing just to get some votes I start getting nervous. |
