Just finished it, oh man, all of this raw footage without music is so awesome. I know we get the same on G4 in a way, but not to this level. Makes me more than annoyed Yuuji didn't get more than a fluff piece on it. But I guess since some [sarcasm]smart guy[/sarcasm] decided to make tournaments that close to each other we couldn't. I guess in the end it's OK because if they're strictly going by a every 6-7 month schedule we'd have a Sasuke either this month or last and since a Summer one worked so well last time...

I would've liked if Yuuji had gotten one, but just think about it. Would it be anywhere near as impactful? I mean, the only angle I can see them doing is doing the whole "underdog" story and doing some bits and segments on UNCL. But considering nagano was an all-star and the final stage hadn't been beaten in 13 tournaments, I feel like when he won the impact was much greater and there was more to talk about. Oh, and thank you Arty. That was even funner to watch than Sasuke 25 I got misty eyed at some places, and this as a whole made me like/respect Yamada a bit more.

Well Yuuji has been trying to get on Sasuke since 2003 -- Sasuke 11. 17's special is impactful in that these guys are real good friends. But so are other trial guys + UNCLI and likely all of Shin Sedai. As close as the All-Stars? Maybe, maybe not. Yuuji didn't have the luck of being a competitor during the 5-17 era, so seeing more in depth of the new direction Sasuke went in since Nagano's win would be exciting to me. As well as just going the length they did with 17 as with 24, because Nagano was estatic to see him win, so the All-Stars looking at the eventual full takeover of the Shin Sedai I would love to see reactions, even if I wouldn't understand what they are saying lol.

Actually UNCLI is closer in RL than the Allstars since UNCLI chose to be together in RL as friends rather than the All-Star guys being lumped in a group by a TV station and then turning into friends. Either way.. I wish they had one for Yuuji. They had a perfect opportunity to do so and they didn't..
Either way I loved this special and it really was nostalgic to see that era again.

Yeah.. They had a great gimmick with UNCLI and TBS doesn't even mention them and barely gives them a shot at the course besides Yuuji.. They're trying to make the Shin Sei/Shin Sedai (New Stars/New Generation) more of a group.. Granted they are friends for always trying out in the trials but still..

They should have done one for Yuuji. At least then people would have seen him win. (oh snap, ratings joke, cough...umm...moving on)
A piece like that on Yuuji would have given TBS/M9 a chance to sell the New Stars too. You could focus not just on Yuuji, but Kanno, Hasimoto, Tajima, the rest of the STQ and some behind-the-scenes training with UNCLI.
There aren't going to be many All-Stars left to compete, time to manufacture the next stable of stars to market.

They should have done one for Yuuji. At least then people would have seen him win. (oh snap, ratings joke, cough...umm...moving on) The special aired October 18, 2006. It was aired during Golden Time nationwide, not just in the Tokyo area ala the late night SASUKE shows. Officially, the special was called "SASUKEに生きる男たち" and got a 7.1 rating.blogs.dion.ne.jp/mmbon/archives/2006-10-7.htmlMight need to rethink that?.. A piece like that on Yuuji would have given TBS/M9 a chance to sell the New Stars too. You could focus not just on Yuuji, but Kanno, Hasimoto, Tajima, the rest of the STQ and some behind-the-scenes training with UNCLI. You mean BESIDES Youtube? There aren't going to be many All-Stars left to compete, time to manufacture the next stable of stars to market. Remember that "All Stars Vs. New Stars (Vs. Americans)" promotional thing they did to advertise 23/24

Rider,
I know the ratings for 24 and the '06 special aren't great, but the joke would have been that people could have more chances to see Yuuji beat the whole thing, but whatever I know it was a lame joke to being with.
As for your YouTube comment - unless M9 is directing people to go to UNCLI's blogs or Lee's blog, not alot of people are going to get behind them. Their videos don't get a lot of hits. If M9 wants to market new stars, it needs to advertise - not presume YouTube is doing the work for them. A special on Yuuji winning could have lumped in his UNCLI cohorts and a couple of new stars that have had success since Nagano's win.

Uhhhm... I guess that was a worse joke.. I was saying the only coverage UNCLI gets besides the occasional clip in Yuuji's profiles is on youtube..

Well the UNCLI who get the most coverage here besides Yuuji are Ryo and Tomino (Keita)....you can draw the conclusion there.
