I've written this guide for others like me who would like to stream their WIST feed on Livestream but may not know how. This can also be adapted for other streaming services, but I will be focusing on WIST since it seems to be the provider of choice this time around. I will also be using VLC to stream the WIST channel since it will allow us more control over the feed. If you don't like VLC you can substitute another media player, but to keep things simple I will be referring to VLC throughout the guide.
Items you will need to setup install ahead of time:
Ok now that you have everything installed and setup we can get started...
That's all there is to it. You should be broadcasting, and can check for yourself by opening your Livestream channel in a browser. Just be sure to shrink the window so you aren't blocking the WIST stream. You will also want to mute your Livestream in the browser when testing so that you don't get any weird audio loops. After testing I would close your browser to prevent any issues.
If you run into any problems please post them in this thread and those who have experience can try to help out. If anyone spots something in this guide that needs corrected please let me know and I will fix it.
Items you will need to setup install ahead of time:
- WIST service (www.wist.tv ) (Jason's WIST guide)
- Livestream account (www.livestream.com)
- Procaster software (provided by Livestream)
- Media player (VLC recommended, www.videolan.org/vlc)
Ok now that you have everything installed and setup we can get started...
- First you will need to login to your WIST account and start your TBS channel. When you click the channel it will either ask you to download an ASX file, or it will attempt to play the channel in your browser window. If it starts playing in your browser window you will need to copy the web address for the channel, as shown below, so that we can open it in VLC.
Example showing where to copy the URL
Note that the URL will expire if not used within a few minutes. If this happens you will need to repeat this step to get a new URL. Once used it will stay active and playing until you close VLC. - Now that we have the file/address, we need to open it with VLC. If you have a file simply open that file with VLC by double-clicking, or right-click and select open with VLC. If you have the address you will need to open VLC, click 'File', then click 'Open Network Stream'. Once you have done this you will see the screen below.
Select HTTP, paste the address in the box, then hit OK. After a few seconds VLC should start playing the stream. - Next we will start the Procaster software that Livestream uses to broadcast. Start your Procaster and you should see the following screen.
- Make sure that the Procaster has 'Screen' highlighted as the source and then click 'Preferences'. The following are the settings that I use to broadcast. You can play with the settings and use whatever you feel works best.
The output size is not important right now, but the Aspect Ratio should be 1.5:1 for WIST streams
The Source should be set to your sound card
Once you are done with the settings click the 'Save' button. - Now we're reading to broadcast on Livestream. Simply click the big button on Procaster that says 'Go Live'. You will now have a box on your screen showing the area that is being streamed. You will want to position that box over your VLC window as shown below.
You will want to use the zoom buttons at the bottom of your screen to shrink/expand the box to fit the size of your VLC window as shown. Notice that you can also chat in your Livestream room by selecting the Chat tab on your Procaster.
That's all there is to it. You should be broadcasting, and can check for yourself by opening your Livestream channel in a browser. Just be sure to shrink the window so you aren't blocking the WIST stream. You will also want to mute your Livestream in the browser when testing so that you don't get any weird audio loops.
