Well Bunpei hasn't competed since Sasuke 21, waaay back in September 2008. Mainly due to injuries.
Will 25 be the tournament he finally makes his return?

To be quite honest, I fear he's never gonna compete again.
That said, I think he is playing it safe and not coming out and just saying "I'm retired."
That way, if he doesn't get better, he just slowly retires. But if he says it outright, like Yamada, he will look like a hypocrite if he ever gets healthy enough to compete again.
So, until proven otherwise, he's probably still not healthy enough to go.

Sadly I agree he's not. and it's not mostly due to injuries, its entirely due to injuries.
At his age even if he gets over them its a longshot that he'd ever be any good anyway, I could see him ending up like Yamada such as the course is getting harder and harder but he's slowing down. Might be best for him if he gives it up unfortunately.

As much as I would love to see him compete again, comon sense says no. Being 42 ? and dealing with ongoing injuries may be just too much to overcome. A tremendous competitor nonetheless...

It's hard to say whether or not he'll come back. I hope he does come back at least one more time. It would be cool to have all six of the All-Stars competing together one last time.

I know he wants to come back so it's only whether he is well enough to go which is why he hasn't officially retired. If he can get that back to cooperate we will see him again. That's why I voted "hard to tell at this point".

I think he'll try out 25, and see how it goes, if he feels well, he'll return for 26 or he'll go on hiatus again

I really do hope he does. But maybe he shouldn't for his own sake.

Like a lot of you have already said, no, he won't compete in 25. If he's been too injured to be in the past 3 tournaments, the pattern implies the same this time. I was leaning towards "hard to tell at this point" at first, but my gut instead simply says no.

Back injury then a knee injury, how much more must he suffer? =( Unfortunately Bunpei's chances of competing again are rather slim.

Is 42 really that old??
I mean wasn't their a 50 year old who almost beat the first stage.
I mean, although it was an easier course, its not like 42 is old or anything.
At least I thought. I really thought like 50 was the ending point...

I really thought like 50 was the ending point... No 42 is not old. But it is for professional athletes. How many athletes play into their 40s- very few. Heck, many athletes retire at 30. Even though this is not a sport, it is a physically-demanding activity that challenges what the human body can do. IF BUnpei is still injured, then I don't see how he can compete.

For sentimental reason, let's hope he comes back...at least for 1 last time, regardless of his result. A little bit like watching Akiyama. Most people ( except his die hard fans ) probably don't think he will kanzenseiha again but still like to see him come & try. To be fair & without bias, the same should in theory apply to Yamada. Unfortunately Yamada's actions & frequent threats & broken promises of retirement makes it harder for HIMSELF...can't understand why he likes to "sabotage" himself.

That had nothing to do with his age. he just doesnt have good balance. Remember when he fell on the balance tank? Almost cracked his head open i think.

The athletes that retire at 30 aren't true athletes. They're hacks. They only played to get rich and now they're done. An example of a REAL athlete is Nagano. Things are getting harder and he's getting older, but he's still out there, busting his a**, doing the best he can.
That said, Bunpei isn't too old to recover and get into the best shape of his life, nor is it too late for Yamada to do the same.
Will Bunpei compete? Hard to tell at this point.
