......makes it more difficult.
I used a weirder topic name so as to avoid "Last topic" spoilers. Now we have plenty of topics about how Nagano having 40 seconds aside from 45 robbed the man somewhat and while true to an extent, one key part of evidence people seem (at least to me) to skip:
They increased the length of the Final Stage was increased by a half-meter. That's about a foot increase in height. This allows a longer first obstacle which takes more time. Remember Nagano barely beat 17's final stage with 2.5 seconds left. Now the time was shorter and the obstacles more different (although climbing a ladder is easier than spider walking, rope ladder gives it the difficult aspect of it), Nagano took 14 seconds on the Spider Climb (he's naturally fast on it and it did look like he got into climbing position about a half second before the gong but that's for Previous Tournaments; he took 19 seconds here because the ladder is 13m opposed to 12.5, not to mention an assumed gimmicked rope as well.
Basically while partially agreeing that the 5 second cut and the gimmicked rope (since it was the same length) helped, the slightly bigger stage would make a huge difference as well. It just seems to me that people almost overlook this, probably don't and just don't mention it but this has been on my mind for awhile (the new length of the stage making the difference between failure and kanzenseiha).

I don't think half a meter makes a major difference. It's about 1.75 feet.

Nagano was simply slower on the rope climb this time, that's all there is to it.
You can compare the 2 if you want.
Either he was more tired from 2 stage 2 runs, or simply wasn't as motivated to win, we'll never know. Speculate all you want.

the height didnt change... you know what changed? where they put the 22.5M/23M mark.
7-17 it was above the GOAL mark 18-present its below.
The. Height. Didn't. Change.

Just because Nagano beat a Final Stage once, doesn't mean he can do it every single time now.

well, we know he's got the potential to do that anyway, independently from the fact that he beated it once.

Are you denying he climbed the rope slower this time? Saying I'm stupid because we don't know the reason he climbed slower this time? I don't understand, but whatever.

I think that it's because you said he ran stage 2 twice.

I still the rope is much harder to climb. Nagano cleared the stages better than I've ever seen him clear. Had his ladder climb and transfer been just a couple seconds faster, he would have made it. There was absolutely no lack of determination.
Remember, he has a baby now and that $20,000 or $40,000 would have given him and his new family a lot of security. He is a fisherman after all- they don't get paid a lot for what they do.

I wonder if the all stars get money from tbs to appear beyond the potential prize money?

They don't get paid I know that for sure. The most that they get is travel expenses paid and their hotel paid and that's pretty much it. They have them categorized like celebs (like Olympians, etc.) that are used for promotional purposes and therefore "invited". But that's as far as it goes. That part I do know for sure.
